I opened my eyes. The setting was dark. I was surrounded by buildings and houses. Surrounding them, a big wall.
I had no idea how I got here. All I knew is that I wanted to escape. So escape I shall.
"Hey"
I looked behind me. My friend, EridanusStar, walked up to me.
"Hey. Where are we?" I was quite confused. But I knew I was trapped.
She shrugged. "I dunno either. But I wanna get away from here. Wanna help?"
I grinned. I loved a good dream escape. "Heck yea."
EridanusStar took me to her house. It was a sad house; much more like a prison. It was only one room, hard plaster covering the walls. The whole room from ceiling to floor was covered in yellowish/orange paint.
I looked down at my hands. I held a knife.
"Come on." I looked at EridanusStar. "We can carve our way out."
We chose a good spot next to her house. We hid behind a thick tree and started carving the hard plaster wall. The wall outside was like cutting through hard clay. It was a brown color.
As I carved, EridanusStar kept watch.
"What are you doing?"
I froze. I never heard the voice before but my dream mind was telling me that person was bad. A captor.
I turned and stared. She looked calm, as if she wasn't about to kill us. Her body was absolutely relaxed so I took that opportunity to lung at her.
As I grabbed the side of her neck, she fell limp. Didn't even resist. Eridanus just watched me.
I was scared for what I was about to do but I knew that I had to do it for dream survival.
I took the knife I held and started stabbing her. As blood fell from her face to the ground, she looked at me.
She had calm eyes even though she was being killed. "Your making a mistake." She said that as though it was a fact.
I didn't want to hear it. It was either her life or ours. As I finished her off, I felt guilt. She might have not been bad, but if she reported us, we would've gotten killed.
I dragged her under the tree, hoping she wouldn't be found soon.
I looked down at her. "I'm sorry. But I had to do this." I turned to EridanusStar. "We have to hurry. Come on."
She looked away. "Storm, I don't know if I can do this anymore. I'm too scared after we killed her." She backed away. "What if we get caught outside of the wall? If we admit that we killed her, we could get tortured."
"Fine. You stay here. I'm escaping." I went to work carving out the wall.
Once I finished, I took my little brother by the hand. We squeezed through the small hole. I looked up.
"They're escaping! Hurry!" Some other captors shouted.
In front of me was a bigger wall. It was wooden this time.
I looked at my brother. "Jess, I'll throw you over first and you wait for me there, ok?"
"Ok." He nodded.
I tossed him over. I could hear cars moving on the other side. There was a road. I yelled to him. "Don't move, ok? I'll be right over."
I quickly climbed. As I dropped to the other side, I could hear people yelling from inside the walls.
I looked around for my brother. Jess was nowhere to be found. As the other people started to try climbing the wall, I had to run.
It was still night. I ran and ran until I didn't see the wall or hear the people's screams anymore.
Up ahead, I saw a gas station. It was one of those 24/7 gas stations.
As I jogged up to an old man, who was running the gas station, I yelled him a question. "Sir, do you know where this place is?"
He smiled. He could somehow be trusted. "Yesser, I do. This is Bend, Oregon."
I stared at him in disbelief. I couldn't be in Bend!
"I can't be. Where is my phone?" I checked my pockets and found my old phone. I quickly logged on and went on Google Maps to see if I really was in Bend.
To my surprise, I was. "Oh." I had to make a plan to get back to my family. I racked my brain. My cousins live just 120 miles from here. My parents even further. But they deserved to know first. So I called my parents.
"Hey. This is Storm. Can you please call my cousins?? Tell them that I'm okay, but I need a ride from Bend."
After I ended the call, I relaxed. Sighing, I closed my eyes.
I woke up in bed with a jolt at 7 am.
