Time is like a movie.

But not the way you think.

For every passing moment

Is one single tiny picture.

A pointless little fixture

On a strip of camera film.

As single, separate pictures

They are nothing more than things.

Devoid of context, black and white,

They're small and dull and slightly blurred;

And only when the camera whirrs

Do they truly come to life.

And when they're played together

They begin to dance and sing.

All those frozen moments thaw,

Colour blooms and so does meaning,

Focused, sharp, alive and breathing.

Full of awe, and quite sublime.

And that is how you perceive Time.

But Time is not a movie

Of just your single life.

For every person now and past

And every person that will be

Is the main protagonist

of their own life story.

Filled with love and loss and hope,

With dreams of vastly different scopes.

Of friends, loved ones and family,

Of fond and hated memories.

And all of us have just as much

As little you and me.

But even when we've all gone

And no one's left to watch,

The movie will still carry on.

The earth will dry up and erode,

The sun will expand and explode,

And the credits still will not have rolled.

The stars and galaxies at night,

The sky above, the ground below,

Which seem to us unmoving,

Will play through quietly on their own;

Like the pictures on that camera roll

Even though nobody's watching.

And isn't it a beautiful thing

To be one tiny, unique cog,

An important spec-sized plot point

In the motion picture known as Time.
