December has always been a beacon of warmth in my heart, stirring up treasured memories and a keen sense of expectation.
In my younger years, December was synonymous with the magic of Christmas, replete with the sheer joy of the first snowfall, age-old traditions, and the priceless moments shared with my family. It was a period brimming with joy and the pleasure of spreading that happiness to others.
Yet, as time marched on and I navigated the path to adulthood, the simple joys of my youth began to elude me. The cherished memories of my favourite toy shop, the captivating cartoons of my childhood, and the incomparable warmth of familial gatherings gradually became muted, transforming December into a poignant reminder of what was once had.
Watching those around me pause their busy lives in anticipation of December prompts a reflection on the essence of homecoming. The rush to secure tickets for a familial reunion during Christmas underscores the powerful draw of "home"—a repository of memories, affection, and a deep sense of belonging. Yet, it can also be a tether, preventing us from chasing our dreams and realising our fullest potential.
Like many others, I left the comforts of home to chase after my dreams and ambitions. Fuelled by desire, I pursued higher education and the liberty to explore the myriad opportunities that lay before me. Departing from home marked a pivotal moment in my life, allowing me to find my purpose and embark on a voyage of self-discovery.
The notion of home occasionally feels remote, its once comforting presence fading into obscurity, making me wonder about the true essence of belonging. The prospect of creating a new home, complete with a family of my own, remains an enigma. Yet, life's transient and intense nature compels me to reflect deeply on its true essence. My commitment to the noble field of medicine has meant sacrifices, particularly time away from those I cherish. Nonetheless, I've grown to understand what truly holds value and am committed to reclaiming those precious connections.
Success and happiness lose their lustre without loved ones to share them with. While I may not have all the answers to life's questions, through my poetry, I seek to peel back the layers of my inner self, hoping to uncover truths that will illuminate my path forward.
