SCP-4118 Tube O’ dinosaurs
Little Bobby loved his mother’s work. I think any child would share the same feeling, most likely since his mother worked at a toy store. The owner of this establishment let Bobby play with any toy when the boy came into work with his mother, although his mother was not too pleased about it. She was afraid Bobby might break an item and its loss would be reflected on her paycheck. So Bobby only ever took toys when his mother couldn’t see him. However, he eventually became so bored with everything there that even something like a big remote-controlled helicopter could no longer interest him. Bobby looked at all the new toys indifferently, and after only a few minutes returned them to the shelf. He did not notice the large plastic tube filled with painted dinosaurs until he accidentally brushed up against it with his shoulder. Since the tube fell down, he decided to take a peek inside. Only this was not as simple as one might think. When Bobby tried to look inside the tube, a mirror reflected the light, forcing him to look away. And when he reached a hand inside, he found nothing. “Could it perhaps be empty?” With this in mind, the child curiously began to shake out the tube’s contents. Several plastic dinosaurs fell to the ground. This came as a disappointment to Bobby. He had seen better before. But when he reached out to throw the dinosaurs back into the tube, they suddenly came to life. They began jumping around Bobby and looking at him as if he was their mother and had just moved off the nest. Bobby then grabbed the container and gave it a few more shakes. Several larger dinosaurs spilled out onto the floor. If herbivores had fallen out the first time, then this time it was predators. This was apparent not so much by their shape as by the fact that creatures immediately began eating their predecessors. Bobby became frightened. Moreover, he had somehow managed to become attached to plastic herbivorous dinosaurs in just a matter of seconds. The boy let out a scream and pushed the predators away from their victims. In response, the carnivores obediently took off to the other side of the toy store. Bobby picked up an injured plastic dinosaur, but it was too late. The poor creature had already lost its head and one limb, so it gave no signs of life. Right at that moment, Bobby’s mother found her son like this. She was certain that sooner or later Bobby would break something and that day seemed to be today. She was inexplicably furious. The boy’s mother did not believe his words when he told how the two other dinosaurs had attacked and beheaded the herbivore. However, one peculiar customer, whom the mother had only just assisted but a minute ago became interested in the situation. He introduced himself as a child psychologist and asked the saleswoman for permission to speak with the child. The psychologist told Bobby that he believed the boy’s story. And in an effort to prevent the mother from being angry, he stated that he would buy a tube of the dinosaurs at their full price. He was not a psychologist at all, in fact, but actually an employee of the Kappa-7 “fun police” mobile task force. This group has been monitoring all toy stores for quite some time in search of strange artifacts. And on that day, their surveillance efforts were not unfruitful. The anomaly is currently under containment as scp-4118. The object is an opaque plastic tube for toys. On its surface in acrylics is painted a picture of a sauropod watching three theropods eating. On the flip-side one can see the notorious Dr. Wondertainment logo and its corresponding inscription. Right beneath that there is a text stating that this toy will allow you to recreate prehistoric reptiles and observe them with your own eyes. When the tube is opened, a reflective surface is visible, which prevents one from looking inside. This is, however, most likely an optical illusion. If the tube is flipped with the reflective surface down and shaken just a bit, scp-4118-1 will sprinkle out of it. These are living dinosaur toys, the sizes of which range from 3 to about 60 cm. They are made of typical hard plastic, which includes such chemicals as polyvinyl chloride, thermoplastic elastomers, and acrylonitrile, butadiene styrene. Generally speaking, there is nothing too much out of the ordinary about their material. Most of the toys appear to be creatures from the Mesozoic Era. There were also specimens from earlier eras, as well as from the later Cenozoic Era, although plastic animals are much less common in regards to the latter time period. There is no need to feed the objects, but they actively fill their stomachs anyway the herbivores eat whatever plants they find. The predators, on the other hand, help themselves to any available plastic that is not too tough. All of the strange toys have much more mobility than their real-life counterparts. This, however, is most likely due to their tiny size. Every creature searches for a habitat that matches its species. Brachiosaurus specimens tend to move towards anything that resembles a forest, while the triceratops prefer to be in areas akin to the savannah. As a result, the containment chamber with scp-4118-1 includes all types of landscapes suitable for each species. The lighting here is set in such a way as to accommodate the daily biorhythms of the reptiles. The dinosaurs’ relationship with humans depends on a number of factors. When a new specimen emerges from the tube, a sort of imprinting takes place. This phenomenon can be observed when, in the very first seconds of life, a newborn duckling captures and remembers the first living object that it perceives to be its mother. And so it is with the dinosaurs. These plastic reptiles capture the first person they meet within the first ten or so seconds, after which they regard him as their parent for the rest of their lives. The dinosaurs strive to be close to this person and will even obey commands. Their aggression while in the presence of this person also decreases. Such individuals are classified as scp-4118-2 there is a specially made schedule for them, according to which they can visit their “copies”. When the “pseudo parent” is not near their “young” for more than ten seconds, the reptiles revert back to their previous behavioral patterns. For the plastic creatures, of course, old age and natural death are not applicable, only violent endings. If the dinosaurs are beheaded or deprived of 30% or more of their body weight, then they perish. The overall population does recover on its own, though, since scp-4118-1 is capable of reproduction. When two individuals of the same species are in close proximity for more than 47 consecutive days, one of them will develop plastic eggs. The number can vary anywhere from 1 to even 40. 24 hours after the eggs are laid, they hatch into small dinosaurs. The subsequent growth of said young typically lasts approximately 5 weeks, depending on the specific species. Dinosaurs produced in this manner do not become attached to humans and do not form any new scp-4118-2 specimens, since they capture only their own parents during those first moments of life. Due to the fact that these animals do not require any resources, the extinction of their population is impossible, with the exception of certain species that, for some unknown reasons, cannot reproduce. For example, the crocodile-like Postosuchus Kirkpatrick did not bear any offspring throughout the entire observation period. I believe that this was intentionally planned by wondertainment, because these predators can not only eat their own relatives, but physically harm people, as well. In order to prevent children from being injured, wondertainment removed the reproductive function from the Postosuchus. Some other types of plastic dinosaurs possess a rather high intelligence level and even self-awareness. For example, the predators of the Utahraptor Ostrommaysorum, which have been designated as Variant-05, are capable of complex social behavior, as well as planning and coordinating hunts. The most intelligent being, however, was the one and only plastic humanoid-the Neanderthal, also called Variant Number 9. He is capable of primitive speech, which sounds not unlike an early form of the Basque language. Following containment, he set up a camp for himself and started crafting primitive tools by whatever improvised means available. The foundation staff interrogated the humanoid. As it turns out, he was not always like this. The neanderthal was surprised by his hard skin and claimed that it used to be soft. According to him, his tribe was wiped out by a volcano, after which he ended up in a plastic body. Based on the interrogation findings, the foundation presented two hypotheses. According to the first, the neanderthal died under the volcanic eruption, but his consciousness remained, and was later placed in a plastic toy. The second hypothesis is that Dr. Wondertainment simply implanted false memories into all scp-4118-1 to produce more realistic behavior. I, for one, personally believe that both these hypotheses have missed the mark. In my opinion, scp-4118’s tube is some kind of space-time portal, like a wormhole, except only consciousness “wrapped in plastic” can pass through it. When a person shakes the tube, the consciousness of an accidental dead creature from the past moves through the tube and falls out in the form of a plastic figure. Those who die now may also fall out in the form of a plastic figure somewhere in the distant future. If the foundation still exists millions of years from now, then perhaps its own employees will meet many of their ancestor-colleagues in miniature form. If, of course, scp-4118 is still in foundation custody by that time, because at one point the anomaly had already been considered lost without a trace. On January 7,1998, The Serpent’s hand infiltrated site K-40 and snatched up the object. Still, not a single plastic creature disappeared… at least initially. But after a little over a week, fifteen Utahraptor and Pteranodon Longiceps vanished from inside the containment chamber. Most likely, they departed in some mysterious way, since the video surveillance showed no record of the escape in any usual manner. On January 27 of the same year, the escapees were found all of the lost individuals approached the gates of Site K-20 in an organized fashion, and with them was the strange tube that had disappeared, as well as a specimen of Quetzalcoatlus Northropi. It has yet to be determined how exactly this all took place. Interrogating the Neaderthal also turned up nothing. But given the “Serpent’s Hand’s” leniency towards such intelligent paranormal objects, one can definitely put some things together.
