Steven laid back against the house. He was on his porch, the sliding door beside him leading straight to his room. Around him, everything was covered in snow, but thanks to the large pink bubble he was in, the snow and most of the cold left him untouched. He didn’t react as he heard a soft thud near him. Then he felt the bubble tremble and looked over with a questioning, “Huh?”
A dark maroon colored cat with thick, lush fur and bright magenta eyes was pawing at his bubble, mewing softly at him with an adorably high-pitched voice. He stared at her for a moment, then gave a small affectionate smile and let his bubble disappear. Without hesitation, the cat padded up to him and climbed into his lap, pressing against his waist.
“Whoa.” Steven shuddered a bit. “Your fur is freezing cold.” The cat gazed up at him silently, her eyes glistening. He grinned and made another bubble surround the two of them. “Don’t worry,” he whispered. “I’ll keep you warm.”
The cat laid down and rubbed the top of her head against the palm of his hand as he began to scratch the back of her ear. His hands wrapped protectively around her, his fingers lacing along her back and pressing her harder against him. Soon they each fell blissfully asleep.
By the time Steven woke, the snow had stopped falling, though it hadn’t yet melted. Laying on the ground beside him with her head in his lap was Spinel, her eyes closed and her mouth slightly agape. Steven smiled a bit at her peaceful expression and placed a gentle hand on her cheek. Instinctively, she pressed hard against his hand and he chuckled quietly. “My little kitten,” he murmured, his gazed fixed on her. “So cute.”
