Elizabeth Chance sat in the waiting room, looking at the clock. Wait, why was she in the waiting room again? And a creepy-looking one too. It was so eerie, and it was practically falling apart. There was a huge spider web in the corner, and there were drops of water falling from the ceiling as if the whole thing was about to collapse. There was a huge grandfather clock up on the wall, ticking. Not to mention, it was almost completely dark, the only light source being the one and only small window behind her.
Tick…
Elizabeth wanted to leave. She wanted to get up and go back home. But she couldn’t. She just couldn’t. It was like she was glued to the seat. She wanted to race out that door and whatever this building was.
Tock…
But wait, was there even a door in this room?
Tick…
The sound of the clock rang in her ears. It was the only thing she could hear in this room.
Tock…
Wait, there was a door! Right in front of her. How had she not noticed it before? It was an old door, like the one you would find in a villain’s lair. Big, black, engraved with patterns.
There was a new sound now. But she just couldn’t pinpoint where. At last, it hit her. The door! It was moving. Wait, moving? Someone was coming in? Who? Why? Would they see her? Of course, they would see her, the door was right in front of her. Would they help her get out? She hoped so. How did she get here in the first place? Is this just a dream? It felt like a dream. Why would she dream of something like this? These thoughts raced in her head as the door creaked open, drowning out the sound of the clock, which was still ticking and tocking.
It was only a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity. Light sneaked in as the door opened up. Finally, she could see who was opening the door, and the person who was opening the door could see her.
Elizabeth braced herself but didn’t know why. Why? Why was all this happening? Why was she here? Why couldn’t she get up? Why? Why?
“Elizabeth Chance, 12 years of age, daughter of Jane and Michael Chance. Is that you?” the person who came out of the door said. It was an old lady. She was hunched back and you could tell she was very, very old. Much like the whole room itself, she was scary. Something about her, maybe it was the way she just stared at Elizabeth, maybe it was the way she had a scowl on her face, but either way, she was scary as heck.
The lady rolled her eyes, “Well speak up. Are you or are you not Elizabeth Chance?”
She nodded, and the old lady told her to come on in to the room she had just come out of. Suddenly she was able to get up again. Elizabeth awkwardly followed the old lady, as she crept through the hallway. There were multiple doors, she noticed. Each with odd name tags.
‘Jacob Myers, Age 35, aka. Big Bad Wolf’
‘Robert Dickson, Age 32, aka. Giant’
‘Susanne Williams, 29, aka. Ursula’
Seriously, what was with these name tags? Like, does everyone just have some kind of Disney villain assigned to them? She passed by another door.
‘Mary Ahimoth, 19, aka. Queen of Hearts’
Then the old woman stopped. Elizabeth was so caught up with reading those names that she bumped right into her.
“I’m sorry!” the young girl backed up. “I didn’t mean to-”
The old lady scowled at her and said, “Why are you apologizing? Don’t you know what you are? Who you are?”
Now, this was just plain weird. What did this old lady mean? I mean, she was trapped in a random waiting room, only to be picked up by a random old person that she doesn’t even know the name of and now this person is asking her who she was? Crazy, isn't it?
“Er, I’m Elizabeth Chance?”
“Never mind, just come into my office,” the old lady opened her door.
‘Arya Smith, Age 42, aka. Evil Queen’
This can’t be her office. If Elizabeth knew anything, it was that people don’t look 60 years older than they are. But, when she looked at the old lady, the old lady wasn’t old anymore. She looked beautiful. The wrinkly old woman had gone back half her age! She still wore the same scowl, though. She had an apple in her hand.
“Are you the Evil Queen?” Elizabeth asked, remembering that scene in the movie when the Evil Quen turned from this beautiful lady to the hag she once was.
The lady, Arya (Elizabeth assumed it was her name), sat on the chair behind her desk. Her office looked just as creepy as the waiting room. There was a huge cauldron on the far left side of her desk that bubbled and croaked, and behind Arya sat a giant mirror. The mirror’s frame was engraved patterns that looked to be the Evil Queen’s story.
Arya then began to talk, and Elizabeth sat in the chair across from her, clenching the chair’s arms so tightly that she could’ve broken them. Again, just like in the waiting room, she couldn't move. Not even a single inch.
“Listen, Elizabeth Chance, I assume you’ve heard of the villains from fairytales and what you call ‘Disney’ movies?” Arya said, grabbing a ladle and stirring the cauldron. She looked disinterested as if she was the one being interrogated here.
The liquid in the cauldron seemed to be glowing green. It reeked of fish and dirty socks, and possibly even worse than that. Arya grabbed a small glass bottle, popped the cork, grabbed something from inside, and put it into the cauldron. The liquid stopped glowing and turned into a grayish purple.
Elizabeth nodded. Next thing you know this lady would say that those fairytales actually happened and that the characters of each story got reincarnated into this world to relive their lives. This thought almost made Elizabeth laugh.
…
Until Arya said exactly that. The younger girl looked at the older one as if she was crazy.
But, that’s impossible! There is no way that that could be true, Elizabeth thought, staying silent.
Arya’s glare hardened.
Arya raised her voice, “And why can’t it be true? Because somehow, you’re in a random office with no idea how you got there. Last I checked, that also can’t be true. You must’ve got here somehow. And in the waiting room you were in there was no other door in that room, so how did you get in?”
Elizabeth stuttered, “How did you?"240Please respect copyright.PENANAjoOwLdUevz
