Dr. W.D. Gaster was torn from his reality when he fell into one of his machines, leaving the lizard Alphys to take his place as the royal scientist. where he went no one knows, some guess he was torn through space and time, and in a way, that was true.
Gaster bustled around his makeshift laboratory. Here, in between all dimensions and all timelines, he could hear all and feel all things that any version of himself caused. for the first few months, it was terrifyingly overwhelming. but he slowly began to get used to it, but even now, the overwhelming amount of sensory input annoyed the old skeleton. two cracks were on his head, one connecting his right eye socket to his mouth, and one going up and around his skull from his left eye socket. here in his personal hell, he had managed to discover something, he could retrieve any material he needed just by wishing for it, but he could not escape, not yet, but he would. in front of him stood the giant circular frame he had built, a doorway to his world. by some form of a miracle he had managed to send Alphys a message detailing his machine and the necessary preparations. she too had constructed a gateway but in his home laboratory. there had been a slight irregularity though. a human had released the monsters from Snowdin, and Alphys was preparing to leave, he instructed her to wait, so she waited, but anxiously so.

Gaster ran about making final preparations for his return journey. connecting final power conduits, checking the angles and security of his framing. when he decided it was finished he stopped and looked about, with a sigh he collected many of his journals and books he had made since coming into the between lands. putting all essential items into a bag, he pulled a lever, drawing from the infinite power of the between lands atmosphere, the machine powered up, the image of his laboratory wavered into existence, a surprised and excited Alphys came into his view. straightening his black coat he stepped through the gateway, a whooshing sound could be heard as the gateway closed.
"W-welcome back sir." the yellow lizard stuttered.
"Thank you Alphys, it is indeed a joy beyond any other to be here again. my home, so much more, quiet than the between lands. did you pack my things as I instructed?" Gaster said looking around.
"Yes sir, I've already sent them off with Sans and Papyrus." She said clearly a little bit more nervous with her old boss back. "Do not be so Warry Alphys. I have changed much since you last saw me." Alphys calmed slightly, glad to hear the words.
