Jungkook was pumped.
He was one of the first to arrive for the annual event this evening, and had already completed his warm up with a jog through the dense forest. He wanted to memorise every twist and turn of what lay ahead.
Jungkook kept his body in exceptional shape; a perfectly chiseled chest, tiny waist, muscular biceps and powerful thighs. Considering his sadistic nature, though, his face depicted that of an angel. His brown, doe eyes smiled with his kissable mouth, a pouting bottom lip and a cupid’s bow on top. And he preferred to keep his silky, ebony hair tied away from his face.
When oncoming headlights blinded him, he squinted, shielding his eyes with his arm as he tried to identify the car and its occupants.
The vehicle tucked into a small inlet on the dirt path and cut the lights, and Jungkook’s eyes readjusted to the forest's dusky glow. Every time he saw that car, he kicked himself for selling Jimin the modified Range Rover.
‘Brothers!’ Jungkook yelled, throwing himself on the bonnet and hitting the windscreen while stabbing the air like a lunatic. ‘I smell fresh lambs.’
He felt the engine rev beneath his body, and through the glass, he met Jimin’s intense glare, prompting Jungkook to release a boyish giggle.
Taehyung was the first of the pair to step out of the car. ‘Jungkook.’
Rolling off the hood, he landed beside Taehyung and muttered, ‘He’s going to have to get over that misunderstanding one day, you know.’
Jimin slammed the door without a word and headed to the group that had gathered below the floodlight. The two white cargo lorries at the opening to the brush stood out a mile in the uninhabited space.
Jungkook - with a satanic smile - looked between Taehyung and Jimin who was now a few feet ahead. ‘What’s his problem?’ An amused Jungkook asked, pointing over his shoulder.
Taehyung - aloof as ever - ignored his comment and called for his friend. ‘Jimin! Wait up!’
Jimin stopped, keeping his focus ahead as he waited - not for him - but for Taehyung. He could be such a drama queen at times.
The trio moved with purpose, ready to join the gang of bloodthirsty savages as Jungkook slipped between the two men. Knowing he would touch a nerve, he threw his arms around both their shoulders and said, ‘Are your fathers still on your case about finding a wife?’
He knew Taehyung wouldn’t take the bait, but right on cue Jimin bit back, ‘You're in the same position as us. How’s your search coming along?’
Jungkook gave a whimsical smile, touching his nose, ‘I always have a plan. Don’t you worry about me.’
Like Taehyung and Jimin, Jungkook was born into the ancestral cult. He too was expected to carry on the bloodline of his family with a son, and to take the place of his father along with the other two heirs.
His kinship with Taehyung was amicable; they understood each other. If it wasn’t for Jimin, they would be closer, but due the pair being inseparable, Taehyung had a tendency to keep his distance. Unless it was related to business, of course.
Jungkook’s relationship with Jimin could only be described as hostile, but Jimin, Taehyung and himself were forever tied by ancient ceremonial bonds which could not be dishonoured.
For Jungkook, finding a wife was simple. Take a beautiful woman, restrain her until she consented to being his wife, and keep pumping her with his seed until she delivered a son. He knew his brothers’ views on finding a wife, but he considered it a weakness on their part.
After the last of the men arrived, Jungkook’s father, Jeon Ji-Hun stood before the group who in turn gave him complete silence. The only sounds came from within the forest as the nocturnal wildlife woke up for the evening. That and the hysterical muffled cries from inside the containers as the lambs waited to be slaughtered.
‘There is one lamb per hunter. Take as long as you need, or make it quick if you're feeling...merciful.’ The crowd erupted with laughter and Ji-Hun continued, ‘On the first siren, your lambs will be released. On the second, you may chase.’
Cheers flooded through the barbarous mob, whilst Ji-Hun quickly silenced them with his hand and knocked on the two containers.
‘Are you listening, my beautiful lambs?’
Nothing but screams and frantic thumps came from the terrified women inside the metal enclosure.
‘Listen carefully,’ Ji-Hun pounded back, demanding their attention, ‘when you hear the first siren, you will be released. I suggest you run. If you escape, you will be rewarded with your life. Understood?’
Jungkook could barely contain his excitement, lunging as soon as the first siren blared and tainted the stillness of the beautiful night. The thuds vibrated through the ground as the lambs swarmed into the abandoned forest like a herd of cattle running from their hunter.
He glanced to his left, and then to his right. Everyone was in position and ready for their pursuit. As the second horn tore through the air, Jungkook turned to Jimin and Taehyung with a wide grin and dilated pupils. Whilst he and Jimin barely tolerated each other, he was impressed with his ability during these events. The man’s hunting skills were second to none. This was the Jimin he wanted to be around. The Jimin that held no vendetta over a trivial matter.
Their eyes met, and Jungkook dipped his head and raised his knife to toast before the men raced from the starting line and sprinted into the darkness.
Screams filled the eerie woodland as Jungkook spotted the lone lamb he wished to tail. He could hear the twigs scraping her body as she pushed through the sharp branches to escape her fate.
‘Run, don’t let me catch you, little lamb,’ Jungkook taunted as he kept a purposeful, steady pace behind the woman.
Catching her too soon took all of the fun out of the game. He preferred to let them think they had a chance of getting away.
When a piercing scream echoed to his left, the woman he pursued jolted and subconsciously whipped her head in the same direction. The shriek was followed by a breathless grunt. ‘Stop fighting. It’s over.’
Oh, goodie. Jimin had caught his lamb, but Jungkook wasn’t ready to take his catch down yet; he was enjoying the thrill of the chase far too much.
When the woman a few steps in front crashed to the floor, he slowed to a stop and approached. Distracted by the nearby scream, she’d failed to notice the slain body lying in the crisp leaves, and had tripped right over it.
‘Don’t give up, little lamb,’ Jungkook rasped as he towered over her trembling form. ‘Run.’
When a rustle of leaves caught his attention, he squinted through the darkness, not surprised to see a tall man smoking a rollie emerge from the shadows.
The petrified woman scrambled to her feet, stumbling in his direction as a cloud of smoke swirled around him. ‘Please! Help me!’
Pitiful. She was grasping his trousers like a beggar, pleading with him to save her from the crazy man that had chased her deep into the forest.
Jungkook took great joy in watching her face fall when Taehyung snatched her up and whirled her around. ‘Is this one yours, Jungkook?’
‘No,’ she sobbed as she flailed around in Taehyung’s grip, ‘don’t!’
Licking his lips, Jungkook eyed the terror-stricken lamb from navel to nose. ‘You know me, Taehyung. We can share her, if you like?’
Taehyung hustled the woman in his direction and patted his shoulder while looking at the lifeless body on the ground. ‘This one's yours. I’ve had my fix.’
Jungkook shook his head, noticing the blood smeared over his friend’s mouth. ‘Might want to clean yourself up there, V.’
As Taehyung disappeared into the blackness, Jungkook ripped her mudstained blouse in two. The material floated like feathers around their feet as he unsheathed his knife and slid the flat of the blade beneath the bridge of the garment.
‘Any last words?’ he cajoled as he snapped her bra with a singular flick, ‘you may be able to save your life.’
Her scream was so loud it almost burst his eardrum. He’d heard enough, and in a split second, he sunk the knife into her neck and swiftly sliced from ear to ear, a spray of blood staining his shirt as she gurgled her last breath.
