The next day, Ashton found himself at the library, contemplating his next prank while eagerly awaiting Angelina’s arrival.
After a few minutes, she walked in, holding some snacks she had just bought from the school cafeteria and her trusty binder tucked beneath her arm. Taking a seat beside him, she quietly read through her ideas, which were written down in said binder, giggling to herself, imagining his flabbergasted reactions. Breaking the silence, Ashton couldn’t help but inquire about her thoughts.
“What’s that?”
Angie turned around. “Oh, just a few prank ideas I was writing down last night,”
“Can I see?”
She slid the binder across the table and to his seat. “Hmm, why not?”
Ash read through it line by line, scanning her messy, hurried handwritten notes for good ideas, but couldn’t read a single word. Angie watched him squint at it in confusion, and snatched the binder back. “I’ll explain it to you.”
With an air of excitement, Angelina shared her ideas, her voice filled with a mix of enthusiasm and a hint of mischief. She spoke of her plan to glue Jake’s chair in the classroom, a prank that would undoubtedly leave him bewildered and quite literally ‘stuck’ in an awkward situation. And then, she revealed her arsenal of witty roasts, ready to be unleashed the next time Jake dared to seek an answer from one of them.
While he appreciated her quick wit and the satisfaction that a well-placed roast could bring, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of unease about Angie’s glue prank. It seemed a tad too cruel for his liking, and he didn’t want their pranks to cross the line into genuine harm or hurt feelings. While a part of him felt a surge of excitement at the prospect of a prank war, Ashton knew that they needed to be careful and strategic in their approach. After all, the best pranks were the ones that left everyone laughing, not hurt or humiliated.
As Angelina continued munching on an Oreo, lost in thought, Ashton’s mind raced with alternative ideas that could still deliver a good laugh without causing harm. And then it hit him like a lightning bolt – toothpaste Oreos. A devious smile spread across his face as he shared his newfound plan with Angelina, who couldn’t help but let out a gleeful laugh at the sheer brilliance and audacity of it.
Just as they were about to dive deeper into their scheme, an unexpected interruption shattered their focus. A sharp “SHH!” pierced through the air, startling Ashton and causing him to jolt in his seat. Turning towards the source of the disturbance, he recognized the unmistakable voice of Jake, their notorious classmate (who they wished would transfer to another class during Chemistry, especially) who always seemed to be lurking nearby, eager to stir up trouble.
And just like that, Jake had regained his pride and ego, but Ash had lost every last ounce of his. Jake laughed harder than ever before. He felt like himself again.
He had won this round.
With a newfound determination, Ashton and Angelina exchanged a knowing glance, silently vowing to outwit him next time and create a prank-filled atmosphere that would bring joy and laughter to all. They’d get him next time.
