I drove that road just to pass the beach,

to see the endless stretch of water,

to drown in its vastness.

The world blurred by,

but I was awake now,

music blaring,

my soul coursing with the beat.

At daybreak,

I found my spot,

a forgotten patch between crumbling towers,

the towering hotels leaning like specters.

Glass walls separated the rich from the forgotten,

and I, stranded in between,

watched the palm trees toss in the wind,

their fronds streaking through the air,

leaving sand-smeared scars on the asphalt.

I didn't care,

sometimes, I drove without shoes,

my feet brushing the filth of the forgotten lot,

the concrete path guiding me to the wooden boards,

to the stairs that descended into the endless salt.

The sunrise kissed my skin,

the first swim clinging to me,

sticky with sand,

my first love,

the beach itself,

its gritty embrace.

The riptide churned before me,

a beast that rose and fell,

pushing my toes deep into the wet earth,

pulling me out just to drag me back again.

I stared into the blue,

the horizon a wound that never healed,

my feet sinking,

the waves devouring me,

pushing, pulling,

crashing and receding.

It was endless,

it was love,

it was violent.

I was infinite in its embrace,

lost within the endless wrestling of waves

crashing against the shore,
