THE KEY
I always lose my keys, regardless of my financial situation. Whether I'm broke or have plenty of money, losing keys is inevitable.
My name is Shikaku Omori, and I study at Mizu Kubo University, a prestigious private university in Tokyo. I'm majoring in business, which may sound "ordinary" for a prestigious university. It doesn't matter if you come from a rich or poor family.
My name, "Shikaku," means "box," which coincidentally matches the square structure of my head. It has become a subject of ridicule since middle school. My head is often compared to Thor's hammer, which has a square shape. So, those who dare to physically attack me will definitely hit my head against the wall.
Well, I have been living with my grandmother in Sapporo since forever. I got used to working while attending high school. In fact, winning various scientific competitions at times helped me save money to live in Tokyo. I am one of those who struggle to make ends meet and live a modest lifestyle. Fortunately, even at Mizu Kubo, I am still included as a scholarship student.
As I smoothly progress into my third semester, my problem remains the same: losing keys. I believe in the ancient saying, "Every crime will receive its karma." But since I'm not the type to give up easily, I hurriedly head to the locksmith to duplicate my keys.
The fact is that Tokyo has recently been plagued by kidnapping issues, involving the trade of internal organs like kidneys at exorbitant prices. This is driven by the 5% increase in food prices and living costs after the new president took office. They claim it's a result of the European war's influence, but even a student like me can see that it's a game played by the elites.
Fortunately, some kidnappers have been caught and sentenced to lifelong imprisonment. After all, I'm lucky to have just lost my keys.
"Do you want to duplicate your keys again?" the locksmith asked me. In short, I often visit his shop near the small alley. "Matsufushi" store. Not only is it near the small alley, but it's also located underground.
"Just say thank you, okay? I can still help your business, hehe," I replied casually. We have developed a symbiotic relationship and are quite familiar with each other.
"Well... someday you'll get hit by the stone," he said, reaching out to collect the keys I wanted to duplicate.
I opened my jingling bag that had been making noise as I descended the stairs earlier.
"Let's see..." I looked at those keys.
Mikami Matsuyo, Taira Ritsuko, Yutani Maemi, Uchino Takamuku. They are the candidates who are going to claim the keys I brought. I have to duplicate them now. They are quite noisy, always accusing me of various things.
"Here." I handed him the four keys. "Please send them as usual."
I slipped 2 million yen to him. He immediately got to work, and I quickly left.
Besides, who wouldn't be confused when they lose their keys? First, whoever could sleep outside rather than in small apartments or flats. Second, whoever would become easy targets for kidnappers.
Well, at least the second option is unlikely to happen to me.
