Chapter 2 - The Shocking Truth
Dawn had set and the sun was just tittering over the horizon, when John reached his home town - New York - The City Of Dreams. Having seen the time, John was overjoyed. He had reach in time for his wife’s birthday. John quickly booked a cab.
“Good morning – “ the cab driver was interrupted.
“ Hi. Sorry but I have to get home right now so please drive as fast as you can.”
“Umm, it is – “
“Please.”
The Cab Driver sighed but complied to John’s request having understood that the man had some sort of emergency.
On the way, John ‘ s Boss called him.
“Yes, sir?”
“You delivered the letter?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Can you please come to my office?”
“Sir. It is my wife’s – “
“Sorry John but urgency calls. You know what I say –
“I do –
ONLY THE STRONGEST WILL WIN”
“Yes, that being said. Please meet me.”
John was melancholic and he was genuinely heartbroken that he could not spend the early morning with his beloved wife. He and his wife had met in college. John and Taj had both fallen in love and a cordial bond had developed between the two. It was not just a petty short – term college love but both of them saw one - another as their soul – mate and the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with. Years have gone by, but their affections towards one another has never withered away and they continue to keep making memories with one another that they shall forever cherish in their hearts.
John was a honest man. He could not lie. This was probably the reason Mr. Robertson had sent him to give the letter for he never opened the letter. He could not lie to his beloved if she were to call...
John was so deep embedded within his thoughts which were broken by the Cab driver.
“Sir, We are here.”
“Oh, um ok. Thank you.”
John went to the office and met Mr. Robertson. He was in a melancholic bait. Unlike other employees, John was passionate towards his work and did so with utmost joy and love so to see him in such melancholy, caught Mr. Robertson by surprise.
“What happened, John?” Mr. Robertson asked.
“Sir, actually today was ,my wife’ s 30th Birthday.” John replied
“Oh, do not fret. I shall leave you in 30 minutes.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“I just want to know if you delivered the letter. It is very important for our office.”
“Yes, to a lady with black hair and violet highlights.”
Mr. Robertson’s Jolly and understanding face turned to one of bewildered horror.
“B – black hair w – with violet highlights?”
“Yes, what seems to be the matter?”
“Um, d-d o y-you-u-u-u-u k-k-k-k-know h-h-her – n-na-na-na-name?
“ Yes I do, sir. She had not told me but as I have learnt about paying attention to details from you, I saw a tattoo in her hand. Her first name is Amelie.”
“No! No! No! What have you done? You just gave the letter to her?”
“Yes, Sir. She knew the code you had given me. You asked me to give it to a lady who knew our office code. Is everything alright sir? “
“No! You delivered the letter to my ex – girlfriend - ...”
“WHAT?!”
“Who...”
Who?” John asked with irrepressible patience.
“...Is not a real person. She is.....”
“She is.....WHAT?”
“She is,” Mr. Robertson sighs and says,
“She is a spirit."
