As Susan and I said our goodbyes and I got closer to my house I noticed another car parked outside. Curious as I was clueless I went up the three little steps and heard crying. I pondered as I opened the door until I saw the Johnson's and realized then.
"It's today?" I questioned. Everyone nodded, except for Mrs. Johnson as she sat in my mother's arms in tears. My father who seemed to be not apart of the group as much as my mother, came up to me and hugged me bear tight.
"I hope I never lose you." He said to me while he desperately tried to hold back any tears.
"Should we go?" Mr. Johnson said to us, we all nodded.
The walk I took that day felt like I had been walking for years. It was that day three years ago, that would never leave my mind until the day I died. It was a moment I would remember for an eternity.
"Hey Cole bet you can't climb to the top of that tree!" I had said.
"You're on!" As he spoke, he climbed faster than a cheetah on speed. I hadn't realized a boy could even climb that fast. "You owe me Luke! I win!" I had looked to him.
"In your dreams! That was just an easy tree! You can't dodge rocks!!" I had said to him as I gathered tiny rocks and threw them at his legs as he moved slightly. It began to rain lightly.
"Why'd ya give up? 'cuz you know you suck at throwing!" He told me with a smile, just then it began to rain harder and my clothes became soaked.
"It's raining! You're going to fall!" I yelled to him over the sound of rain pulverizing the gravel as I pleaded him to get down.
"Luke, come on man! Let's just have fun, throw more some rocks unless you're scared of a little rain!" The sky lit up as loud thunder was heard throughout the world. I looked around for another rock to throw and it was the size of a golf ball and threw it at his legs.
What had happened in that moment, is the reason I will never find peace. As the rock hit his leg, the rain had overpowered the branch making it more slippery than ice.
As he lost his footing on the branch while his hand desperately tried to keep a hold of the branch which let him go, he came in contact with other, more deadlier branches. The worst wasn't over, no, the worst was his head being the first thing to come in contact with the grey and unaffected concrete down below. I ran to him, shaking him hoping in some miracle way he was just sleeping..
"Cole! Cole! Wake up! Come on bro, don't.. stop playing around.." I kept shaking to the point of which I thought my own head would fall off. "Cole.. wake up.." I cried as tears flooded my vision I rested my head on his chest hoping to hear the beautiful sound of his heart.
"L..Lu..Luke.." I heard Cole say over the sound of my sobbing as I rose my head.568Please respect copyright.PENANAfQoUoZBUW4
"Why Luke?" I wiped my tears away as I came into a decayed and demonic version of my once playful and sarcastic friend, his eyes were black with hate and anger. "Why did you kill me Luke?! Trying to get rid of me huh?!" He yelled as he slowly rose from the ground which had cared for him, though suddenly a voice called to me.
"Luke. Buddy." My memory faded as I opened my eyes to reality, to my father's eyes which gave a look of pity and sorrow. "Hey pal, you dozed off. We're heading back home soon alright?" I nodded as I sat right up and watched my father walk away to the adults and gave a smile.
I noticed I was laying next to the tree, funny. When he was still alive this would be our tree, we'd always come here for the littlest of things. From just playing tag, or hide and seek to discussing our little secrets to everyday things at school.
I hugged the tree like if Cole was there with the exact thing I wished for so long, to see his bright blue eyes and stylishly messy blonde hair would mean the most to me. "I.. I'm sort sorry Cole. I would do anything to bring you back. Anything.." Tears escaped my fragile face, and I felt as though I cried for an eternity.
"Honey it's time to go." My mother said while she gently wiped the tears from my face. "Give me your hand, we'll walk together." I stood up as I gave my mother my hand, I looked ahead and saw Cole's parents holding hands and rested their heads on each other as we all walked back.
Later we arrived home and I began to ready myself for bed. Before I decided to sleep I ran to my parents bedroom and gave each of them a kiss and long hug. "Goodnight." I said.
"Goodnight." My dad said as they both smiled and turned off their lights.
My bed which I slept on never truly did a good job ever since Cole's passing. I took sleeping pills just to feel the effect of just any exhaustion, the night I took one more than usual to rid myself of today and drifted into bliss. My mind became free, and my body an almost lifeless vessel.
A feeling of pain came over on my left arm and I awoke in a black room of absolute nothing. Nothing except myself, I looked at my left arm and the name 'COLE' manifested. "It is your fault!" A loud voice boomed. I covered my innocent ears to not become deafen by the noise, but to no avail. "Why! Why kill me why?!" I fell to my knees in pain.
"Please! I'm sorry! Cole forgive me!" I pleaded with my heart, I believed it worked.
"Then if you were truly sorry you wouldn't have the guilt of my death in your conscience."
"Yea I would." I began to tear up and sniffle, "I can't let go of you or what I've done." I stood up and wiped the tears.
"Why Luke? After all these years why can you not forget?" I took a big breath.
"It's because you're the only person I ever trusted. I.. I loved you Cole." The name on my arm began to fade, as a boy walked out of the shadows and came to me. I was unable to see his face, speak or move. His arms extended and began to hug me. I knew then, it was Cole.
