Chapter 1: Changes
Jinger was about to do laundry when she heard David, her husband, come in thru the front door calling her name. He was three hours early, so it surprised her; she was almost on the other side of the house.
She had been cleaning all day but had not decided what to make for dinner yet. She needed to go shopping. So, she hoped that David had not brought people home with him.
It was rare, but he had done so before without calling her first. He would tell her to answer the door naked when he came home from work. And she always did, until one day, he brought home his boss and wife without bothering to call her first.
She was so embarrassed that she ran into the bedroom to get dressed and would not come out until the other wife, Tracie, walked in with a drink for her.
They had met each other before, so they talked and gossiped until Jinger had finally calmed down, and after about twenty minutes, she was able to leave the bedroom. Her husband seemed to love embarrassing her.

Then she started to worry; maybe something was wrong at the office.
Maybe he got fired, which was why he was home early. David took off his shoes and locked the door behind him.
Then he continued calling her name as he made his way thru the house. Jinger, his wife's name, was spelled with J but pronounced with a G, so its pronunciation was traditional even if its spelling was not. They even monogrammed their towels D + J in descending letters that angled attractively.
Jinger, -a flawlessly beautiful woman, had been the perfect wife for the past five years. She had pale, white skin and brilliant red hair that glowed like fire. Her natural beauty blended two nationalities, Scotch and Irish.
Her parents were redheads, but David was English and Italian, who appeared white, but nowhere near as pale as Jinger.
David was tall, handsome, and very thin. He might have weighed 170 pounds right now and could have used twenty pounds, but he had always been skinny. He could eat anything but never gained weight. Jinger envied him for that.

He tried to sound pleasant as he called her name, but his voice had a slight undercurrent of fear. Jinger had just thrown her clothes in the washer, and when he was not home, it was not uncommon for her to walk thru the house naked with the shades drawn.
She put on a thin robe and slippers that David had bought her this past Christmas and hoped he did not bring home any unexpected guests. It was rare, but it still happened no matter how often he promised her he wouldn't.
Jinger put on her robe before she answered him; she was not taking any chances. Then she peeked out from the laundry room to make sure that he was alone, and finding him as such; she ran out to meet him in the kitchen.
He kissed her, sat down, and while standing before him, he took off her robe and had her straddle him on the chair.
Jinger tried not to cry as she wore a smile and nothing else. But she resisted until he removed his belt; the buckle hurt her. She did not want to get caught in it. It had happened before and in a very sensitive area. She knew something was wrong.
"What's going on, David?" she asked, trying not to sound worried.
"The business is failing," he said, "and Michael is going to sell it off and then move to Florida like he always wanted to."
"Failing." she said, "Why failing? The last time I spoke to Michael, he told me the business was doing great! And that was only three months ago. Why have things turned so badly in such a short period???"
"Everything has changed with the Internet, competition overseas, and the new tariff laws. Now Michael doesn't want to do it anymore."
"But Mike started the company," Jinger said, "And from the ground up. I can't believe he would sell it. I thought he would die trying to save it first.
He started it by himself from almost nothing and built it up to what it is today with his two hands."
"Well, now he's bankrupt and wants to do something else instead."
Jinger couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Like what???"
"I don't know," David said, "he didn't tell me."
"What about you and the rest of the employees? "Jinger asked, "You've been with him for years?"
"Now we all have to fend for ourselves," David said.
"Michael's 45; that's only ten years older than you," Jinger said, "He's too young to retire. Way too young!
Even if he did nothing because he saved enough money to last until he was eligible for Social Security, he still wouldn't be qualified for that for another twenty-five years."
David was 35, and Jinger was 27; she had come from a family with money. But her parents were far from the same financial success that Michael, David's boss, had achieved.
"I don't think it's just business," David said. "It's Tracie, his wife; they've been having marital problems, and I hear she's planning on leaving him."
"There divorcing?" Jinger asked, stunned. "Why?"
"Because he's in trouble," he shrugged, "maybe he'll even have to file for bankruptcy: Chapter 7 or 11 -whatever the law will allow to his creditors."
"Chapter 7," she said, "That's Liquidation! I can't believe Mike got that deep in such a short time. It's very sudden."
"Yea, well, that's the state of the world today," David said, "we live in a global economy, not a national one and international sites like Safari are dominating; I tried to tell him that, but he wouldn't listen to me."
"Have you talked to Tracie?" Jinger asked.
"No, not really," David said, "but I know she wasn't happy. She only married him for the money, and now that it's gone… well, you know that old adage about women jumping off a sinking ship."
"Poor Mike," Jinger said, "I can't believe he's losing everything, and he has almost a hundred employees."
"Yea, well, that's the way it goes," David said, unconcerned.
His reaction shocked Jinger, "How long have you known?"
"Almost a month now," he said.
"A month, "why didn't you tell me sooner?" she asked.
"Because I didn't want you to worry," he said, "That's why.
What would you do except nag me daily about how things were going? And then cry yourself to sleep at night. I was only thinking of you, Jinger."
"What did Tracie say when she found out?" Jinger asked.
"I don't know," David said, "As I mentioned earlier, I haven't talked to her. Why don't you worry about us instead?"
"I am," Jinger said, "What are we going to do?"
"Well," he said, "I already have something else lined up, but I didn't want to say anything until after it was confirmed."
"What do you have lined up?"
Another job, he said, "doing the same thing."
"Really," she replied.
"Yes."
"Where?" she asked.
"Hendrix and Associates," he answered.
"The competition!!!" Jinger was shocked.
"Of course," he said, "it makes perfect sense, doesn't it?"
"Oh, David, I don't know," Jinger said, "Isn't there another job? Any job? Even if it's in a different field, that you can work instead? Not Hendrix; that would add insult to injury."
Hendrix was Michael's fiercest competitor and had even stolen employees away from Michael in the past. James Hendrix was a horrible, evil man: with no morals, ethics, or principles that some said weren't even human.
"I have an interview Monday," David said.
It was Wednesday now.
"When is your last day with Michael?" Jinger asked.
"Today was my last day," he said.
"Today?" she asked, "Not Friday?"
"Nope."
"What about your stuff," she asked, "pictures, plaques, awards?"
"That's in the car," he said, "I'll get them later."
Jinger was still stunned by the news as David got up and undressed.
"C'mon," he said, "folding his clothes over the chair; he was naked now.
"Where are we going?" she asked in a fog.
"The bedroom," he said.
"The bedroom for what?" she asked.
"What do you mean for what?" he laughed, "Don't be stupid."
Jinger had to start dinner, and she didn't know what he wanted. She certainly was not in the mood for sex.
They needed to talk.
"Wait, Michael," she begged, "can do this later, maybe tonight?
Right now, we have to plan."
"No, we can talk afterward," he insisted.
"But what about dinner?" she said, "I haven't even started it yet."
"What do you have?" he asked, pulling back the sheets.
"Mainly leftovers," she said, "Actually, I need to go shopping."
"You can go tomorrow," he told her.
"Fine," she replied, "but what about tonight?"
"We can order out instead," he said.
"Don't you think we should save money instead of wasting it on luxuries? And talk about re-budgeting?"
"No, this may be our last time to splurge before using our savings."
She was already naked, so he threw her on the bed and jumped on top of her. There was very little to no foreplay, and under the best circumstances, she would not have enjoyed it.
It was excruciating because she was not ready, and he entered her anyway without any lubricant. Then he came in her in about two minutes, rolled over, and went to sleep.
When Jinger was a freshman in high school, a senior invited her to a party and offered her alcohol; later, trying to keep up with him, he got her drunk and carried her upstairs to his parent's bedroom.
She kept asking, "What are you doing?"
"Nothing," he kept repeating while undressing her, forcing himself on her.
She could not stop him, and she cried thru it; that was her first experience with sex, and she never had it again until after she met Michael.
Sex with her David, when he was like this, made Jinger feel exactly like she did after the senior had raped her. Afterward, she just lay there shaking and tried not to cry.
She wasn't sure what bothered her more, the news about David's job or how he had mishandled her during their love-making.155Please respect copyright.PENANA8emudfiNYZ
