The teens in the ghost room look at each other, sparks of panic flaring in their chests. There aren’t that many of them, just a few groups, but they don’t like how the doors slammed and can’t be opened. The farmer boys continued to try to open it, unaware of the heavy feeling that slowly pressed on the sober teens’ chests. Something about the room doesn’t feel right, beside the obvious doors-not-opening situation. The teens talk in hushed voices, asking the same questions that no one can answer.
A group of witches huddle together near the window, staring at the other partygoers with distrust and anxiety. A boy in a skeleton costume had been hitting on a girl dressed as a zombie prom queen but now they stand together, the girl practically hanging off the boy. Two drunk boys who had been making out in the corner stay glued to each other, their attention shifted only slightly to what is going on around them. Three clowns in the room are spread out. One by the door, one by the window, and the other making their way through the crowd to the back.
The lights flickered, momentarily sending everyone in darkness. Several more girls shriek as they come back on an instant later. Everyone looks around, terrified. The farmer boys try harder, pounding on the door and throwing his weight against it.
Little do the teens know that the flickering lights are triggering something in someone’s mind. A sensitive switch setting something dark into motion.
The lights flicker off again. The sound of broken glass echoes in the room causing several people to make noises of fear.
Shrouded in darkness, a clown grabs a girl in a blue dress by the throat, yanking her away from the punch table so hard her ankle snaps. She screams as the sound of her bones breaking echoes through the room. The clown slams the broken wine glass into her face, a wicked grin spreading across their lips. They shove the broken glass as far in as it can go, then pull it out and do it again until the sound of the girl’s struggles and choking gasps fade away. As she takes her last breath, the clown wipes the blood off of themself on the girl’s dress and slips back through the crowd.
A boy by the light switch frantically flips it, shrouding everyone in light. As the people look around to make sure everyone is okay, somebody screams. Others follow suit, quickly backing away from the body in the corner of the room, lying crumpled and bloody, a broken wine glass stuck into the front of her face. Blood runs down the front of her costume, staining the blue dress a deep purple. Glass shards lay by her feet, one of which is twisted at an unnatural angle.
“Holy shit, she’s dead!”
“Open the door!”
“Let us out!”
Everyone panics, yelling and cursing and pushing toward the door. It finally opens with a noisy creak and everybody floods into the next room, some still yelling, others crying, and even one with a weak stomach and fear of gore puking in the corner.
Friends rush to each other, making sure they aren’t hurt while others take a peek in the room to see the dead body. A clown rushes for the second door, pulling on the handle and horrified when it doesn’t open either. The drunk farmer boys join the clown, pounding and pulling, their fear sobering them up a little. Someone cries as everyone realizes they’re locked in another room with a killer. The first door shuts, leaving the dead body to rot in a ghost themed room alone and trapping the people in the new room.
The two boys who were plastered to each other now hide in a dark corner, one cradling the other as he cries. The witches sob, mourning their lost friend. The skeleton and zombie prom queen whisper harshly at each other, both wanting to leave. A tall girl dressed as Wednesday Adams rushes to a girl dressed as a clown, yelling and hugging her.
As the rushing around slows and people settle next to their friends, not wanting to move from what little safety they feel, they notice a giant note written on the wall in what looks like blood. “You’re next.” And next to the note is a bloody torn piece of fabric. It looks like it was torn from the dead girl’s dress. The music changes to an eerie tune that sends a chill through the room.
The killer wasn't done, and one of them would be next.
