Ella felt the sun on her face as its rays filtered through the canopy, the warm sunlight refreshing to her as she excitedly followed her mother to the garden in the backyard.
"What are we picking today?" she asked.680Please respect copyright.PENANAmmAmy6SOAV
"Something special today, dear" her mother responded, readjusting the basket in her hands as they went.
They soon reached the small patch of they were seeking- her mother opened the gate on the rather dinky fence, and allowed her to go through. She skipped through and waved to all the flowers and plants sitting in the dirt. There was a very good explanation for this- you see, she'd heard that talking to plants helped them grow. She'd learned that from her mother, who she knew knew a lot about plants. She greeted the various plant-life as she walked around the perimeter of the garden, while her mother went to work, keeping an eye on her as she worked.
She then came upon one of her favorite plants, a large venus fly-trap.
"Hello, Mendel" she greeted, rubbing her hand along the skin of the plant. In response, the fly-trap seemed to push into her palm, as if it actually wanted to be petted.
She heard her mother giggle faintly, or seemed to- when she turned, she saw her mother facing away from them, her face hidden from them. She shrugged it off, and turned her attention back to Mendel.
"You keep eating those flies...okay?" she said, brushing her hand along the plant "You're doing a great job- we wanna keep all those nasty bugs from eating momma's plants"
The fly-trap nodded once more, most likely as a result of a breeze passing through, and Ella went around the garden to visit the rest of its residents.
Her next visit was to a large pitcher plant that sat in one corner of the garden, the lid-like leaf covering the opening was currently up, standing stiffly as it caught the wind. As she walked closer, she could smell the sweet aroma from inside the pitcher plant, drifting outward as to attract its next meal.
"Hi Elpha" she greeted.680Please respect copyright.PENANAG2FF3szq1c
The plant's 'lid' shifted downward slightly, then reverted back to its original position.680Please respect copyright.PENANAJAcro7SMNC
"Yeah, it is a bit hot today, isn't it?"680Please respect copyright.PENANABrbeaZWEX6
Elpha, of course, was inclined to agree with her.680Please respect copyright.PENANAgrVZirtafM

"Okay, be right back" she said, crossing the garden.
She carefully stepped over some grape-vines as she continued to venture toward her mother.
"Momma?" she asked.
"Yes?" she replied sweetly, pausing from her work.680Please respect copyright.PENANA7FjoFjrhk0
"Can I have some water? Elpha says she's thirsty"680Please respect copyright.PENANABWVQGvKF7y
"Of course, the watering can is right here" she said, nodding to her other side.
Ella went around her mother, still taking care not to step on any plants, and lifted the watering can by the handle.
"Careful, it's heavy" her mother warned, watching her out of the corner of her eye.680Please respect copyright.PENANAB2md8ysEvv
"I got it" she affirmed, taking the can by the bottom, as not to spill any of the liquid sloshing around inside it.
She then proceeded to cross the garden once more, but this time with difficulty, as she had to watch her step as well as keeping the liquid inside the can from spilling. She set it down once she had made it across the garden once more.
She lifted the can by the handle this time, as to pour the water onto the ground.
"There we go" she said, smiling a bit as the plant was given one of its necessities.
The ground quickly drank the water, the only trace of it remaining was the dark spot where she'd watered it. She turned, the watering can still in hand, and proceeded to tend to the rest of the garden.
