Her body was cold. Colder than anything he'd ever felt before. The boy stared at her once bright eyes. The light was gone. The gentle light he had gotten so accustomed to. She looked pale. Her original beauty and life was disappearing. Everything he held so dear.
The boy's heart pounded in his chest. What was this horrid feeling? It hurt so much. The weight made him feel numb. It hurt too much for him to cry or speak. He could only stare at his beloved's corpse.
"Sir…" He heard a nurse behind him say. The boy ignored her voice. He kneeled down. Her wrists were so mutilated. If only he had been there... He picked her right wrist up, his shoulders beginning to heave. Could he have stopped this from happening? If he had only known what she intended to do. He would have saved her. He would have done anything to make her feel okay again. Anything. "We need to take the body. Is your family here?"
"I don't know… I don't care…" He muttered. The boy stood up. "Where am I again...?" He could barely remember anything. It was all so unclear.
"We'll find someone to take you home, okay?" The nurse said comfortingly. It didn't matter to him. They could drag him out of the room and he wouldn't care. All he wanted to do was scream. Why was this world so cruel?
He didn't know who took him. It was a nurse from the hospital most likely. The lady hadn't said a word the whole drive. He was glad for it.
When he got inside the nurse stood by the door awkwardly."Are you sure you're alright?" He wished she had kept quiet. He wanted to yell back his answer. His girlfriend had committed suicide hours ago. What was he supposed to feel?
"I'm fine." The nurse nodded and respectfully took her leave.
No one was around. Everyone was gone. He was alone, completely and utterly alone. The boy walked to living room and, feeling weak, fell to his knees. Who could help him? At this point he had only one wish. He wanted her back. The girl who smelled like strawberries and had the cutest smile he'd ever seen. The girl he proudly called his. Who could bring her back? What could possibly bring her back to life?
The thought struck him immediately. What about God? He had never thought much about God, but at this point he was desperate. He needed someone, something to help him. This was something no mortal being could do. The boy looked up to the ceiling. If God was up there then he'd find Him. Would a prayer work? "Please God, give her back to me. Give her back. I need her back. I wanted to save her, I swear I did. You can bring her back. Please give her to me. I'll do anything!"
Dead silence hung in the air. For the first time that day, tears began to stream down his face. God had to answer. He needed something. Anything. "Please God I'm begging you. You're the only one who can save her. I don't know where she is right now and I don't know what's happening to her… but please. Just give me one more chance."
She's not in my domain.
It hit him like lightning, a voice in his head that didn't belong to him. Was it God? Had he heard this poor boy's prayer? "God, what do you mean not in your domain?"
This isn't God. I'm simply an angel, but I'm here to help you. There's only so much an angel can do… but I know where she is.
"Please, can you give her to me?"
It's not that simple. There could be multiple problems… But it can work.
"Please, I'll do anything for you. I just need to try again."
You get one chance. I can send her into your world. She can stay with you for two hours and two hours only. I will give you the opportunity to have the powers of an angel so that you can find her. Do you understand?
"Only two hours? Is that all I can get? Is there some way to get more time?"
I'm not finished. You'll get a few hours to convince her to stay in the human world. If you can do it she'll stay. If she decides to leave then you must take her back. If she leaves then chances are you will never meet her again...
The boy couldn't believe it. One chance to start anew. He could rescue her from her downward spiral. He had to. "Thank you, thank you so much. When can this happen?"
She has already been sent to her destination. I shall send you to her room right now… Boy, if you want her, do your best. Immediately his world went black.
The boy woke up surrounded by white light. He looked around, his mind spinning. What was happening? You are in my world. Run to the left. The boy recognized the voice and obeyed the angel's instructions. He ran to the left, piercing through the light. Keep running. You'll see her eventually. Goodbye and good luck. The boy ran as fast as he could. Adrenaline pumped through his veins. He stopped only when he reached a door. He threw it open without hesitation. His eyes widened when he saw her. His true love, standing in darkness. The light was flooding into the room and he watched as she cringed. She was there in the flesh. Completely alive. He burst back into his run. "JESSICA!" He screamed. As he got closer he extended his hand. She had her arms covering her eyes. When he was only inches away from her he spoke. "Grab my hand." To his satisfaction she did. The boy wasn't sure how he knew, but he knew how to escape. This must have been what the angel meant about getting supernatural power.
The boy embraced Jessica.
There it was. Her warmth once again.
