‘Audrey’s thoughts’
__________________________________________
At The University Library:
"Audrey never fails to smile." Whispered a bunch of girls who were gossiping about Audrey because they didn't find anyone else to gossip about.
"Look at her hand, a part of it is discolored" one pointed out. "Yeah, it's thick and wrinkled too." Another added. "One of my friends who's a med student told me it's an allergy."
"Who could she be allergic to?" One asked, mischief gleaming in her eyes.
"The kid in the opposite building!" All of them giggled.
Audrey noticed the group giggling at her, she was only quietly reading a psychology book in the library, what could they possibly be making fun of? Feeling discomfort, she left the library. The girls continued giggling.
At Audrey's Apartment:
Audrey's POV:
I walked down the corridor and slowed down as I reached my door. That kid from the other building, he just wants to take me down. What have I ever done to him? He never leaves me alone, his pranks never fail on me either.
I walked slowly and carefully, looking for any strings or tapes or anything at all.
Nothing.
I reached out to my doorknob, but stopped, the last time I touched this doorknob, it was covered with glue. I took out the rubber gloves that always come in handy because of him and tried opening the doorknob with it.
It's fine.
I sighed with relief.
I opened my door and changed into my favorite slippers. Just then my toes went cold, I felt something liquid yet not liquid in my slippers.
When I took my right foot out, my toes were covered with a white substance, something like that of yoghurt. I screeched with disgust. A sweet scent touched my nose.
It's whipped cream.
"Ugh, where is that boy?" I asked aloud. Anger surged within me.
All my roommates came in and giggled while the twelve year old made his grand entrance. "So y'all planned it together?" I asked. They all continued laughing. I let out a chuckle or two seeing them laugh.
'How am I gonna clean it?' I asked myself as I looked down at my pink furry and fluffy slippers. I smiled to myself, a bitter smile, thinking about my own reaction.
That kid has never failed to trick me one way or the other, every single day. It's annoying but I just endure it. I tried pranking him back for once, but I failed miserably (getting scolded by his mom). In any case, I managed to pardon him, he has extremely doting parents and if I hurt him, I'll only be pulling the tiger's tail. It's fun though, when you realize your own stupidity. If I were really honest, I'd miss him and his cunning pranks. He's just twelve, he'll change soon and we'll be best friends by then.
After cleaning my feet, I went to the dining table, expecting lunch. But there was none. I looked around for the others. Everybody was in the kitchen. I went to the kitchen and asked, "umm..., why isn't lunch on the table?"
"You thought the lunch will serve itself?" Irene, my best friend asked. "No, I thought you guys would serve it." I replied. "Who do you think we are? Your servants?" Stephanie asked angrily. "No, nothing like that." I chuckled. Stephanie is an engineering student in the same university as me. She is a car enthusiast and a pretty rough person but she's nice on the inside.
We served ourselves food and began to eat, and do remember, that boy was at the table too.
Now, let me tell you, and I consider this very important to be mentioned: none of us, absolutely none of us, know that heck of a child's name. Today isn't the first time, he's been eating with us anytime he wants for the past year. And everybody just welcomes him as if we had known him since he was born.
You see, that's how interesting my life is, nobody knows who on earth this kid is but we just let him in. And I've grown used to it now. We all have. Anybody is welcome to our haven.
"AUDI, MAKE SOME NOISE!!" Irene shouted. And immediately I began, "VROOOM, VROOOOOOM, VROOOOM..."
And there are times like these, when everybody becomes childish, and when even Tasneem, a medical student in the same university as the rest of us, smiles. In case you're wondering how Audi came about, the car crazy Stephanie came up with the nickname for me. Now, it is rather used to annoy her. But she's cool with it. "Oh, did you know? Audi has released a new car and it's called..." Stephanie began, her ears perked up in excitement to tell us about the new car we were never interested in. We all let her talk her heart out, it's her passion, it's the only thing she ever wants to talk about, so we let her have her fun.
"Wow, Steve, I did not know you knew this much." The twelve year old remarked, looking completely uninterested. "It's not Steve, it's Ste-"
"STEFAWNY! STEEEEFUNNY! STEEFANNY!" Tasneem interrupted with her mouth full of food. Tasneem isn't the kind of person who talks that much. I'm guessing she only likes Stephanie out of all of us. She becomes somewhat happy whenever Stephanie is called Steve teasingly, she tries to correct them while teasing her more.
Everybody laughed. Then Irene began her daily news report from all around the world. Her family lives in different parts of the planet, so she gathers all that is happening from around the world within one family video call.
It's when you live with these kinds of people do you feel at home and life worth living
