All talk about resolutions aside, let's focus on something different.
This week I had two exams. Neither of these exams I took for the first time, and yet again have they been stressing me out.
The first exams was about methodology, a course that shouldn't need an exam in the first place. The material was useful and provides a guide for writing thesises. However to have an exam on it seems to me, and all the other people taking the class, rather irrelevant and useless. It is all theory and for someone who doesn't interest themselves into these things, like myself, the material can be challenging. Combine this with me taking this class for the second time, and you can probably imagine how high this elevates all levels of stress.
After this exam, I had three full days to completely cover another the material of another course - sociolinguistics. This is a course I have always enjoyed, and the material really interests me! However, it wasn't meant to be and the studying has never gone very well. This course, and most importantly the professor teaching it, fills me with dread. I had the idea it went better than previous tries, but I can only hope for a miracle to have it be enough.
On a more positive side, I still have my best friend in all the world. After the exam we went out in the city in search of a shirt with a cat on it. It had to be this specific shirt that her sister had told her about - we, unfortunately, did not find it. However, considering we were in the city anyway, ventured to a bookstore that has stolen both our hearts. It is a bookstore not much more special than other bookstores, but it has books all the same, in English and with often gorgeous covers. The only thing we missed today was a glass of fine red wine.
We spend some time there and together only bought four books. We were quite impressed and also happy with ourselves to have been able to moderate things a little. I can now happily say that I am able to add Euphoria by Lily King, and Cat Stories edited by Diana Secker Tesdell to my shelf. I cannot wait for the moment that will allow me to guilt free read these, what I presume to be, fine novels!
And with that I'll leave to your day,
happy reading!
