Gosh, law school really isn't a joke.
The semester started only for a few weeks but I felt like we've been at this for years.
What even is sleep? I can't remember the last time I've had full sleep. My eyes are so tired. My caffeine consumption is also very unhealthy.
Thankfully, I have amazing friends here, and we are each other's support systems. Millie is the life of the group, and when everyone feels sleepy, we can always count on her energy to cheer us up. And Cass, bless her heart, she's our tutor. For the many times when we cannot understand our readings, Cass is there to make everything simpler.
So yeah, I'm slowly adjusting, but I'm doing good.
It's Friday, and I'm on my way to the university registrar to process some of my post-enrollment documents. It's in the building on the other side of the campus. The school map given to me was a little confusing, so it's difficult to find my way to the registrar.
My shy introvert ass is so anxious to ask for help from other people. So here I am, choosing to take a much longer time to look for the building by myself than to have the courage to ask a fellow student for help.
"You know you've been circling around for 15 minutes, right?"
A low, deep voice said behind me. I turned my head and to my surprise, it's "the pretty boy" looking at me waiting for my response.
"Oh! I'm sorry I didn't realize--"
"It's alright. You're new here, aren't you?" He said, cutting me. He looked at me so deeply as if he was trying to figure out my whole personality.
"Yes", I answered shyly.
"I'm Nate, by the way. Nathan Dawson, and you are?"
"Samantha Pearson. I'm a freshman", I answered.
Nate answered, "Yeah that's what I thought. I've never seen you around here before."
"Oh yeah, my mom and I just moved here recently." I said, not willing to share other personal details any further.
"So, Samantha, are you lost? Where are you supposed to go?" Nate asked, still not removing his intense gaze.
I feel very embarrassed right now, my whole face is probably turning red.
"Uhm well.... I just can't seem to find the University Registrar. I know it's on this side of the campus, but this map is confusing me so I'm not sure anymore." I said, stuttering a little.
Nate kept looking at me for a few seconds, which felt sooo long, so I had to look down and avoid his gaze.
"That's where I'm going too. Come on", Nate said as he started to walk away.
I followed Nate as he walked. I just realized he was very tall, compared to my 5ft height. He's probably a 6-footer, or even a few inches more. Now that I'm walking beside him, it's hard to keep up since he has long strides.
I stayed quiet while we walked. I could also easily notice how people look up to Nate every time he passes by. What an awesome presence! I mean, not only the girls are giving him loving glances, but even the guys are greeting him and acknowledging him.
I can't believe he's only a sophomore, his aura makes me think he's already a full-fledged lawyer.
"So what was your plan, if I hadn't caught you wandering around?" Nate said, interrupting me from my inner thoughts.
"Well,,, I had some time so,,, I thought I would just visit every building in the campus until I find the registrar." I said, feeling stupid about my initial plan.
Nate stopped walking and looked at me like I was a weirdo, then he laughed.
"Just ask for help! We're all students here, you know. Nobody's gonna eat you whole or anything."
Wow, his laugh. The way his eyes shine and his lips pursed up---
Oh shit, nope nope nope this is wrong. I hate these kinds of thoughts. TT__TT
"Well, I'm still new here, I'll probably get more settled soon" I said, pretending that I was not having stupid thoughts a second ago.
We continued walking until we got to the University Registrar. I was about to go in when Nate stopped at the door.
"Well, here you are. I'll be going now" He said, which honestly surprised me because he said he's also going here.
"Didn't you say this is also where you're going?" I asked.
Nate stopped, and looked at me again with that intense gaze, as if he's thinking deeply about everything.
"Uhm well, I forgot something somewhere. I need to get it back. Bye, see you around, Samantha!"
"Okay thank you. Bye!" I wonder what it was that he needed to go back to get it.
Oh well, at least I'm here now. I have to finish processing my documents soon and meet with Millie and Cassie for coffee later.
-------------------
"HE TALKED TO YOU?????" Millie said, quite loudly as we placed our snacks on the table.
I told them about my encounter with Nate earlier, and Millie was obviously shocked, while Cassie was just quietly listening.
"Uhm yeah? And can you keep your voice low! What's wrong, is that rare or something?"
"Yes of course!!!! Ever since Ashley and Nate went out, Nate doesn't easily talk to random girls. You won't believe that with Ashley's beauty, she's still very insecure so she doesn't like it when Nate talks to other girls except for the girls in their circle." Millie explained.
"I see. Maybe I just looked too pitiful when I was lost so he was forced to talk to me" I said. Yeah that's probably it.
"Well whatever the reason, just be careful. Ashley is kind, but like her friends adore and worship her so much, that they're willing to destroy anything that would potentially meddle with Ashley's happiness." Millie said, warning me. The way she said it sent chills down my spine.
"Fine. I mean, I'm not even planning on doing anything anyway. And thank you, Millie, for scaring the shit out of me. At least I know which group of people to avoid from now on."
"Nahhh who cares, you do you. Just enjoy law school, and don't do stupid stuff, and you'll be okay." Cassie said, looking at the both of us. I felt relieved, and gave her a huge smile.
The rest of the day was spent with us 3 just exchanging random stories and attempting to study in between.
Law school doesn't seem so bad after all.
