"It is said in the islands that monsters of the sea sometimes visit this area, and rarely they stay here to terrorise ships. However, most people believe this to be only an old man's stories. However, as you will know, when the smallest indication of truth for a belief is shown, people will believe it.
This is what happened around thirty years ago. At that time, people began to hear strange deep wailing noises of the far side of the island, out to the open ocean, and those of great age told us that it was the monsters of the deep returned. That is why no-one goes to that side of the island anymore, and anyone that does is thought of as a depraved worshipper of the dread monster."
As he finished this tale, which I have greatly condensed, Æladay behind me, exclaiming "There it is!". As I turned, my eyes beheld a dark, wooded isle and could make out pinpoints of light denoting a town. However, before I could inquire as to whether that was our destination, the boy brought the boat around, so we appeared to not be heading to the town, but around the island. "Surely this can not be good", thought I, recalling the story I had been told only moments earlier.640Please respect copyright.PENANAlcKTyVcicY
Once we had passed out of sight of the village, on the far side of the island, Æladay pulled into a small cove. It was a dark place, but I could make out a small light emanating from what I assumed to be a house. Feeling comforted at this sight, I asked the boy "I thought you said no-one came to this side of the island; what are we doing here?"
His succinct reply was "If you want to see the monster, you must come to the place where the monster is."
