'Thank you sir' I say with a smile, going into the huge office observing it. It is very professionally built and neat. It seems as if two floors were merged to make this one office as I being 5'8 tall, look so small compared to it. I have never felt this small in any room before. His office is way to big for one man. The table is clear glass and can easily entertain 6-7 people. The mundane things organised on his table along with the abstract art occupying his back and left walls make it look breath taking all together. You can see a clear big view of what looks like all of New York from this office's glass walls.
'Please take a seat' says the chef while gesturing towards the chair kept near the table on one side, with two rolling chairs kept on the other with one vacant and the other occupied by someone who seems to be busy on the phone. Is he the Greyson Adler? Looks like it.
Holy shit, it is an honour to be in his presence.
Although I can only see his perfectly sculpted back and a part of his face, I can tell that god put a little more attention on making this masterpiece.
As I sit, I remind myself why I am here. This is my only chance at starting at new life and I need to seize this opportunity at any cost.
'It is an honour to meet you sir. I am a big fan of your incredible work' I said, taking my right hand out in front of Mr.Fernandez.
'I am glad you like my work Ms.Bennett' he says while shaking my hand politely 'So Sara- can I call you that?'
'Yes sure sir!' I say a bit to excitedly.
'Well then call me Patrick. Don't make me feel so old. So tell me Sara, why do you want this job?'
'Well Sir, this job opening at your esteemed organisation has the potential to give my personality a boost as well as render me sufficient opportunities to leverage most of my acquired skill sets – professionally as well as personally. It can bring out the best in me as this platform will let me show my potential. Also, your organisation can give me one of the best professional workplace environments to work to my full potential and collaborate with experienced professionals. I am sure that once I join here, I will grow myself in my career as well as contribute to the organisation's overall growth as well.'
I look up from my nervously fidgeting hands hoping I didn't say to much or too less, to see a smile on the chef's face.
Is that a happy smile or a smile which says "haha you tried but like better luck next time"?
'Why do you think we are capable enough of providing you the chance to grow in this job, Ms.Bennett?' my attention is focused on the deep voice of the person who asked this question, Mr. Adler.
As I look over to him, my eyes get fixate on his grey ones but not loosing myself completely in them I answer- 'With all due respect Sir, your and your business's reputation proceeds you. I have heard about how amazingly you became who you are today, yourself. And I admire that. Thinking along the same path, I am sure you would want others to grow individually while being a part of your firm's growth.'
'It's good to hear that point of view Sara. Greyson I am happy you are not dozing off by now as she is the first person you asked a question today! I am happy that you are intrigued and interested'- he says looking over at Mr. Adler.
I am the first person he interacted with today out of all that have been here? but there were atlas 30-40 people who came in before me. is that a good or a bad thing?
'So Sara, why would you say cooking is your passion?'
'I was very close to my mother and this was something we bonded over. We had a cafe back in my hometown named "The Yellow Stone Cafe" which was owned by my parents and mom was the head barista/chef there. Growing up I didn't exactly have a luxurious lifestyle but my little corner in the kitchen made it the best. I have always been with her, in our little kitchen learning all of her amazing tricks and I loved every second of it. Whenever I cook, or am in the kitchen, it reminds me of my mother and I don't ever want to stop feeling that' every word of that was true.
'Thank You for sharing that with us, tell me Sara, how are you with people as that is also a big part of the work we do as chefs.'
'I would like to think that I am likeable by the people around me. I blend in with the people I am around and I would love to do anything to bring a smile on their faces, in our case by making good food that they would enjoy. I also am able to make conversation with-'
I was cut of by Greyson asking 'Why Yellow Stone?'
'Um- I'm sorry sir what do you mean? I haven't quite-'
'Why name the cafe The Yellow Stone Cafe?'
'Oh, well sir that is where my parents met, the YellowStone national Park in Montana.'
'Is that where you are from? Montana?' he asked with his eyes scrutinising my every move from my fidgeting hands to how my lips moved as I spoke.
'Yes sir, Livingston in Montana' I said. Why was he asking me all this? Is he doubtful of whether or not I am a fraud? I have no clue whats going on inside his brain.
'Well Greyson this is weird, before you were asking no questions and now you are throwing all these personal questions at this girl. what's going-'
'I know what I am doing chef, I always do' he said cutting of Mr. Patrick. What is his deal with cutting people off mid speech? Rude.
Suddenly he picked up the phone, kept on the desk, and dialled a three digit number. I take my eyes away from him and look at the chef with scrunched eyebrows, showing my confusion. But he seems to be mirroring my look as he himself seems to have no idea of what Mr. Adler is doing.
'Send everyone back- we have hired.'
