At six-foot-eleven and 275 pounds, he wasn't a small man. Unlike everyone else, he wore a harsh frown, scowling at the few who attempted to make small talk. Sometimes he would give a small grunt, before dragging the smaller boy next to him away from the stranger who dared attempt to strike up conversation.
I watched him, shaking my head and feeling sorry for the poor younger boy at his side who clearly wasn't completely right in the head. The older man tugged impatiently at his arm, not letting the younger one take time to gaze at the things that caught his attention.
He noticed me, and glared, defiance and anger blazing within dark eyes. "What's your problem?" he snapped, spitting a wad of tobacco onto the ground to his side. His free hand clenched, allowing for noticeable scars to show on his knuckles. The boy had been in many a fight or two, another hooligan with an attitude problem.
Even his shirt expressed his bitterness, the words "FUCK YOU" written in large white letters across his black shirt. He was close enough that I could smell the hint of alcohol on his clothing, close enough for me to know that he was just another one of those teenage boys, the ones who would never amount to anything. The younger boy had on ragged clothes and a plain white t-shirt that hung down well past his knees. Both were dirty from head to toe. 918Please respect copyright.PENANAcwWxl7kxz4
"Lets go," he said, roughly tugging at the young boys hand. Something had caught the poor younger boy's eyes, but his brother would have none of it, smacking his brother's hand. "Leave that alone. Come on." He turned on his heels, dragging the poor child away from whatever had caught his attention.
I walked away, shaking my head in disgust. I felt pity for the younger boy whose older brother was obviously dragging him straight to hell, probably taking him along as he bought more alcohol or drugs, or whatever garbage the young man was into.

I sprinted to keep up with my older brother, though flowers and kittens and butterflies distracted me time and time again. I felt a tug at my arm but ignored it, trying to catch the small, flying insect. A more forceful tug pulled me away from the small black and yellow stripped winged insect.918Please respect copyright.PENANAf2zBRDK95n
I returned to his side, walking the well worn path toward the park, and swings. I stayed close to my brothers side, weary of the strangers who smiled at us. People smiled before they hurt us. They scared me, but I knew I was safe. My big brother was here. He was tall, lots taller than me, taller than any monster or scary person. He was strong, and he would protect me.
I was excited. We had only been allowed out of the house after dad had passed out. He and my brother had gotten into a fight earlier and I could still smell the beer dad had spilled on his shirt. Laundry day wasn't until tomorrow, so there was no chance to change clothes. I didn't mind though, I was used to the smell of beer.
I kept my hand clasp in his, letting my fingers brush across scarred knuckles. He had gotten them busting out a shed window, knowing dad would be angry, but helping me out of the dark, scary building.
A lady's mean, watchful gaze caught my attention, so I pressed up against my brother, feeling him stiffen up. "What's your problem?" he asked, turning to spit some of the dip onto the grass.
Something fluttering got my attention, a black and yellow stripped winged bug similiar to the one I tried to catch earlier. I turned toward it, reaching my hand out. If I could only catch it then I could hold it and keep it as a pet.
I felt a tug at my hand but I didn't care. I had to catch the flying bug.918Please respect copyright.PENANAKFAl7P6KeZ
"Leave that alone." It was the sound of his hand touching mine, not the contact itself that caught my attention. "Come on," he told me, quickly walking off as I struggled to keep it.
It didn't take long for me to spot the swings. For the first time, I let go of my brother's hand, rushing over toward my favorite spot and sitting down.
"Push me bubba! Push me!" He laughed, walking behind me. It was a happy laugh, a good laugh and it caused me to laugh to. He started to push me, higher and higher I went. Giggling, I looked back over my shoulder, into the carefree, laughing eyes and smiling face of my big brother, my hero.
