Greenhorne was a peaceful town. It’s inhabitants were various oddities, from a carefree guide to a dubious mayor. Here they lived happily in this quiet town… until now.
”HELP!! HELP!!” Midnight screamed as she ran into town.
”Oh! An adventurer! Finally, some excitement,” a man said. “Welcome to Greenhorne! My name’s Largo, what’s yours?”
“I’m… Mid… night…” she said in between breaths. She was so tired after sprinting all the way here, she could’ve just collapsed then and there!
”Nice to meet ya, Midnight. So… what was all that ruckus about?”
”There are monsters with peoples faces! I need to warn the person in charge of this town before it’s too late!!”
“Monsters with people's faces?! Gyahaha! You gotta be kidding me! Greenhorne's a peaceful place. A place to leave all your woes behind.”
”…Can you at least tell me where the mayor is?”
“Sure, whatever.” He pointed toward the other side of town.
Seeing as he wouldn’t be helpful any longer, Midnight started towards the mayor.
“Oh joyous day! Isn't the weather just be-YEW-tiful? Oh! An adventurer!” Midnight looked over and saw an old granny in a small shop stand. “Why the long face? You can't go around looking like that! Come on, give us a smile! You know you want to. A smile brings happiness!”
As Midnight listened to her, she couldn’t help but smile. “Thank you… what’s your name? I’m Midnight.”
“You may call me Clara, dear.”
”Thanks again, Clara!” Refreshed with a positive attitude, she continued toward the mayor, but she wasn’t able to go far before a young boy surprised her and knocked her down.
“Wheeeee! Whoo-hooooo! I'm a dragon! Raaaarrr!” The little boy said, running around and flapping his imaginary dragon wings.193Please respect copyright.PENANAZqkcwlkzHv
“Stop it, Rascal! Calm down, or you'll hurt yourself!” his mother scolded him. “This child has me at my wits' end! Oh! An adventurer. Please excuse me.”
“It’s no trouble at all, ma’am.” Midnight replied. At this point, she had almost forgotten what she was here for. “Well, I guess I should be on my way,” she said, continuing in the direction of the mayor.
”D’awww…”
“Tee hee hee!”
When Midnight looked in the direction of the talking, she saw a lovey-dovey couple. She decided not to interrupt them, since they looked like they were having a good time.
“You’re so cute Pookie!” The man said.
“No you’re cute Schmoopy!” the woman (most likely Pookie) replied.
“I feel like I’m dreaming…” Schmoopy continued, dreamily.
”Shall I pinch you? Tee hee hee!”
Midnight continued towards the mayor, leaving the couple to… do whatever they were doing. She seemed to be nearing the edge of town— she could only see a couple of people out there.
“Hey, we don't see your type often. You here visiting or something?” someone asked her. 193Please respect copyright.PENANANOxNg9dis5
“Uh… I guess,” she replied without looking at him. She didn’t even need to look at him to know he wasn’t the mayor, and she wanted to get this conversation over with so she could take care of more important things.
“Huh, some kind of relaxation vacation, is it? Must be so nice for you. I'm sooo jealous…” he said with sarcasm. Midnight saw no point in continuing this conversation any longer, so she headed towards the mayor, who she could see clearly now.193Please respect copyright.PENANAiCdm46bQSJ
“Excuse me, are you the mayor?” She asked him.
“Yes, I'm Dudley, the mayor of this town. I take it you've spoken to all our townsfolk?” Dudley said.193Please respect copyright.PENANAJZPukNvQ08
“Yes, I have.”
“Greenhorne's a nice town. But I'm the mayor, so I kinda have to say that.”193Please respect copyright.PENANANCneALIe16
”Listen, there’s something I need to tell yo—“
Just then, a strange shadow appeared in the sky. The entire town went dark, as if this shadow was blotting out the sun. Everyone in Greenhorne seemed to be able to sense the shadow’s dark, evil presence.
“Hey! What's that?”
“What? Where? Oh!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAJqGpUQPKFn
“What is it, Mommy?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAH4JQT98zOt
”Oh! Goodness!”
“Pookie…”
“Schmoopy!”
“This can't be good.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAun0L9RwhaB
The entire town seemed to be fearful of the shadow in the sky. And then… it spoke.
“I am the Dark Lord, Stan.”
