Vermont sat his book down on his reading chair, ready to wind down after a rigorous day of sword-fighting. As he poured himself a cup of tea, the doorbell rang. He frowned. "Coming!" He shouted, walking over to the door, and opening it. Standing at the door, holding a suitcase, was a bright-eyed, blue-haired girl. She smiled at Vermont, who scowled in response. "Hello, new roommate!" She chirped, using her free hand to shake Vermont's. Vermont gave her a puzzled look. "Roommate?" He echoed, and the girl giggled, nodding. "Yep! I'm Angie, your new roommate." Vermont stepped aside to let her in. Angie walked past him into the apartment, and stood in the living room, taking in the scene. The walls were adorned with various kinds of blades, and a well-worn practice dummy sat in the corner, beside a tall bookshelf. "The empty room's down the hall, to the left of mine." Angie jumped at Vermont's voice, and she turned, finally getting a good look at her roommate. He was a head taller than her, with close-cropped gray hair, and severe gray eyes. His mouth was set in a firm line, and he stood with his arms crossed. He wore a plain gray t-shirt, with the name of a band Angie didn't recognize, and black shorts and sneakers. "Does he not smile?" Angie wondered, feeling her cheeks heat up slightly. Vermont extended his hand for Angie to shake, and she shook it. "I'm Vermont," He said and grinned, revealing sharp teeth. The change to his expression was surprising, and Angie gasped. Vermont raised a gray eyebrow. "What's the matter?" He asked, but Angie shook her head. "It's nothing Vermont," She gave him a smile in return. "You just look nice with a smile." Vermont blushed at the compliment, his pale cheeks turning red. "A-Anyway, let's get you unpacked." He muttered, leading her down the hall to her new room.
Angie's new room was bare, with no decorations to speak of, save for a plain-looking lamp. "I guess I'll unpack now," She said softly, and Vermont nodded. "I'll get to cooking dinner, and I guess we'll see each other later then," Vermont replied, and Angie nodded.
