It was midday, rain was pouring down all around us spraying up from the ocean from the cut of the hull and from above. The ship rocked to one side with a huge jolt, barrels falling to the side and slamming against the railing. A few begin to crack and break spewing all our supplies for the trip to the kingdom of Osmya.
The Captain was up on the deck, bracing himself against the helm, straining to keep it from flying one direction or the other. "Dai, get your ass over here!" he almost screams at me.
I dash over to him, hopping up the slippery, wooden steps, tripping on the last one my shoulder goes straight into the deck and and excruciating pain shoots up my neck and down my arm.
Either way, I have to get over to the wheel before our ship crashes into the bottom of a wave and dives head first into the ocean.
The wheel feels like steel and neither the captain nor I can get the helm to turn away from the waves smacking against the east side of the ship.
With one large wave, I am thrown into the railing of the upper deck, holding tightly onto the rim. The salty water burning my eyes and causing my hands to slip from the railing.
"Help, over here, Peter!" I'm screaming at the top of my lungs over and over again. Nobody can hear me over the howling of the wind, and just as my hand is about to slip completely the Captain, Peter, grabs hold of my hand.
He begins pulling my up, straining to hold balance on the slippery deck. I am almost able to grab hold of the rim with my other hand and pull myself up when something catches his notice. I study is face for a moment as I hang their one hand on the bottom of the rim, the other wrapped around his hand holding his arm.
His eyes go purple, even in the dark I can see exactly what happened. I look out into the sea, and there they are. Sirens. Fuck me.
They beginning singing, the sound beyond beautiful, but they do not affect me. Only the rest of the crew. Wait, fuck, why isn't it affecting me? The thought leaves just as soon as it came because at that moment, the freezing cold water envelopes my body. I am thrashed around in the water and gasping for air.
Only, I am breathing.
My body temperature strangely warms up and a tingly runs through my body. I look down at my legs and my feet are beginning to form webs and so are my hands. I look further down into the water, light radiating from something deep on the ocean floor.
I begin swimming towards it, the other sirens that attacked us on the surface retreat getting ahead of me, blocking my way.
One of them come forward. She has long hair flowing all around her head. It must be at least halfway down her back, if I could guess. Shes wearing a band of vibrant of green seaweed around her head with three sharp and perfectly shaped shells at the front.
"Princess, welcome home."
Nope, this isn't happening, what the fuck is going on.
"I'm sorry, you must have me mistaken. I never even knew sirens existed!" With that I try darting to the top, but I am grabbed my the tail, and pulled further into the light on the ocean floor.
