After I had just about finished reading the book that I had my head deep in I noticed or rather heard something strange across the park. I did my best not to listen as I hid in the darkness on the chair in the park close to the trees. I could normally drown myself within the pages of my book but not this time. I could hear two people talking about taking someone that they were about to receive $10,000 if they could find the individual, but once they delivered them to whomever this big boss is they would receive another $20,000 a piece. I sat still not saying a word or moving a muscle. I just listened until they left and once they did I waited two minutes and proceeded to walk home. As I walked home I couldn't help but feel like I was being followed. But I never looked back, even though I knew I had a ways to go before I got home. I remember that my dad would always say, "Genevieve if you're going to go out late be careful and stay aware of your surroundings, and most of all please take the alleyways to get home." I guess after feeling that feeling I almost forgot. I used to think that my father didn't know what he was talking about until one day I got lost coming home from the park and he came and got me out of a sticky situation. I thought I could get home quicker and I ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Papi had tracked me down and found me in the hands of a very ruthless man by the name of Slash. Even though Slash was his street name he instilled fear in me that I've never had before. At that moment I thought that Slash was going to either kill me right where I stood or toss me in the back of his trunk and leave me there. But as soon as Slash put his hands on me, my dad pulled up and told Slash to unhand me. Slash couldn't see my dad's face at first until he stepped in the light. Slash's face went a sickly white and he quickly let me go and started to apologize like he wouldn't live to see tomorrow if he didn't. I remember Slash calling my dad Bloody something or another. I could never remember the whole name because I was amazed at my father's power with just his presence. My father told me to get in the truck and I didn't hesitate. As I sat in the front seat I watched my papa stand there telling Slash something and then walk back to the truck. When Papa got in our 012 Porsche Cayenne I asked him what the name the man called him and if he knew him. He simply replied and said that the man's name was Theodore Banks aka Slash, Slash got his name by helping some of the big bosses when they had to catch someone of importance. Slash would simply slash the wheels on the person who was on the run body parts on the person too, it became his signature. I asked about the name that Slash called him and he told me the name was Bloody Kathedral. I asked why and my father told me to stop asking questions that it was a part of his past that he wished to leave in the past and that I shouldn't speak a word of this to my mother at all. She would be worried more than she already was. So I simply dropped it and never spoke of it ever again. After a mile or so I looked back to see if I was being followed which I knew I wasn't. But you can never be too safe out here at this time of night. I kept going until I got somewhat close to a familiar area that I knew. I turned again only to see a vehicle coming down the street so I hid to make sure that the vehicle would just drive on by, but I noticed that it was that same gray Ferrari that I had been seeing. So I continued to wait before I kept walking home. At this point, I thought it would be better if I ran all the way home than walked. About four minutes had passed and I was back on my way home. Another thought had come across my brain as if I needed some more thoughts racing through my head at this point and time. I waited about four or five minutes then I continued on my journey home. I walked a little more before I ran because I heard gunshots that seemed to be close and sent fear running through my whole body. You would think that for as many years as I've lived in this city, I would be very comfortable with gunshots, but it still gave me a sense of fear because I know that a bullet has no name on it and that anyone could get hit at any given time or place.

As I saw myself getting closer to where I lived I decided to get back on the main streets just for a few minutes. As soon as I was coming out of the alleyway to start on the main roads that same gray Ferrari zoomed by fast, I almost didn't see it. I began to think and wonder as to who could be in this car. As soon as the thought went through my mind it was gone because I knew that from here on out my only focus would be on getting home safe and sound. What normally took me about 21 to 30 minutes to get home took me nearly 40 minutes. I figured that I would cut through Bella Abzug Park and hit Hudson Blvd East then double back onto West 34th Street until I got home to Plaza West. I ran down West 34th Street to my home at 444 Plaza West. As I got closer to the building of my house, I opened the door to the lobby and quickly ran to the elevator until I got to the 15th floor where the house was. As I reached the door and opened it, Jacob stopped and stared at me. "Geni where are you coming from at 2:30 in the morning?" Jacob said. I was about to answer my brother then I thought about it and responded in my head "I'm 19 I don't have to answer you". I knew he was only worried, so, I took a deep breath and responded, "I was out walking, good morning and good night brother." I didn't give him a chance to respond before I silently walked to my bedroom and flopped on my bed, I didn't even bother changing into my pajama clothes, I was too worn out.
