|EXPOSITION TIME|
The Battle of Eldritch Gods. That is what some called that fateful battle. Others refer to it as the Battle of Monsters. Zero Blackheart, the Fallen Angel of Misery, a being who spent decades amassing power from the chaos in the universe- feeding off of it, growing more powerful, nearly becoming the embodiment of chaos itself. And then Soul Ripper, the Enigma, the being with a powerful beast of his own sealed within like a curse, a force of insanity and madness. Zero who fought for change, and Soul who fought to defend it all.
If not for the efforts of Soul Ripper and his inner monster, Zero would have succeeded and put an end to it all. It was the final battle to decades of warfare.
It all began well beyond a century ago during the Clan Wars in which individual clans fought for their beliefs and control, a constant conflict of chaos that raged on for years on its own, brought to a crashing end by Corus. Corus, one who had manipulated the political system, driven to end the carnage, wiped away all clans and brought forth the Celestial Empire which stood for many decades. Unfortunately for Corus’s ambition, they were slain not long into their rule, and another took command of the dream- corrupting it into an Empire of Tyranny rather than one that stood for the people.
Rebellion naturally came along and polished off the Empire; though with its collapse came the question- what was to be done next? Who would rule? What would the system be? This evolved into the Warring States Period not long after.
Many orders fought for control and many nations came and went. At the top of the food chain at that time were The Demonic Arms, led by Zero who had served Corus long ago, seeking to undo the corruption that had plagued the region for so very long. Then there was The Cynder Alliance, an organization hellbent on protecting the system from before the Empire and allowing it to change naturally.
For years they did battle, neither side gaining the edge, all until a new faction of justice stepped forward and blindsided Zero. Led by his old friend, Tara Frost, Zero was brought to his knees; though before a final blow could be struck, the former friend offered Zero the opportunity to rebuild the world anew, to make it what they had always wanted.
Peace came and lasted, the Home Lands were finally piecing themselves together and becoming whole, until there was yet another tragedy- a betrayal. The scientist known as Midori turned on this new alliance and revealed his own motives, assassinating Tara and nearly killing Zero. This began the Terminator Wars, a year of warfare which would end with the Home Lands being rendered inhospitable by the time of Midori’s fall.
The Demonic Arms joined hands and led the charge against Midori, hellbent to destroy him. Many lives were lost during this single year, and by its end the cornered Midori opted for a final solution- The Vertex Bomb. The bomb would be what corrupted and ruined the once proud utopia. The Home Lands were evacuated, and Zero with the few allies he had left opted to flee as he was once more hunted out of fear.
Unfortunately it would not be the end. The Chaos Wars… beginning with the various alliances of justice opting to maintain the system that allowed for the Terminator Wars to occur and for the Empire to rise in years prior. Headed by the Cynder Alliance, Zero’s voice was lost, and to him the same cycle that his friends had fought and died to change were repeating themselves.
Many events would occur over the years of this era, all starting with the remnants of the Empire making a comeback- led by the Dark Council as well as Zero. Then came the Tatara, thrice over the years, wanting only war and destruction regardless of the cost. The Demon Uprising after humanity tried to control the Demons and even take after the heavens themselves. The Shadow Reaper who wanted to remake the world and restore his own kind. And of course, Zero, who would go to any length to bring about peace, even if at the end it became a matter of destroying all of creation.
Decades of war which erased countless civilizations, countless organizations and governments, a quantity of life not even calculable. It spread like a disease, infecting and rotting away everything. Only remnants remained at the end.
This era, The Chaos Wars… is but one outcome that could have been, forged from many bad choices and designs.
But what if things had gone another way though?
What if Zero hadn’t been driven into the dark? What if the allies never unified? What if this person had stepped in here and this other had stepped in there. What-if what-if… what if the Chaos Wars had never happened?
Will history play out the same or will it change for better or worse? Perhaps it is meant to be seen. Perhaps the detonation of the Vertex Bomb has given us just that- a view into new opportunities?
