The shady room was making Charlotte Miller claustrophobic. She shouldn't have played The Conductor's game. She knew something would go awry. But after many considerations, Charlotte figured that she didn't have much of a choice. Risk her friends' lives, or risk her own. Too many of her friends had already been taken. Eric Stallion, the guitarist; Geoff Gardner, the drummer; Genevieve Richardson, the bassist; it was only a matter of time before she was going to be the next victim gone.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The sudden, thundering knocks on the door startled Charlotte and snapped her out of her thoughts. She then heard a deep, yet calming voice.
"Charlotte... Miller..." The voice called from the opposite side of the door. Charlotte was immensely tempted to break the door down and beat whoever was out there, but her common sense kept her from doing just that.
"What am I doing in here?!" Charlotte cried out. The deep voice releases a brief chuckle and proceeds speaking.
"Why you're just another player for my game; another vocalist for me to... conduct." The Conductor sighs as he waits for Charlotte to respond, which takes no time in the world. "Why are you doing this?" Charlotte decided to ask.
"Sorry, but we'll have to save the questions until afterwards. First, we're going to play a little game."
Charlotte can't do anything but breathe while The Conductor continues to talk.
"If you can solve my riddle, you'll be released."
"You'll let me out of here if I solve your riddle?"
"Let you out of here... into the next phase of my game." The Conductor laughs at this thinking he's so clever. Charlotte is more infuriated than frightened now. "Fine. What's your riddle?"
"I can make sounds with the press of a chord, but I am also made for cars or doors. What am I?"
Charlotte knew it had to be something relating to her or her friends. Or maybe, the answer could be relating to The Conductor himself. But what makes a sound and is also made for cars and doors?
"Ten seconds left..." The Conductor called out. Charlotte started panicking and breathing was becoming harder for her as she tries everything to think of an answer. Until a single, crucial thought comes to her mind; Out of all the people who had been taken, none of them were pianists! This gave Charlotte the solution she was longing for.
"The answer to your riddle is keys!" Charlotte exclaimed. "Keys make sounds when press on a piano or keyboard and keys are made for door locks and car ignitions!"
The Conductor was more silent than an animal hunting its prey. He finally broke his silence. "Well done. I'll see you backstage in a few short measures." The Conductor is gone with the door now unlocked. This is Charlotte's chance to hopefully escape, but if she makes a single poor decision, it could cost her an epic price.
