She opened her eyes suddenly, the scratching of claws down her door shaking her from her slumber. She stretched out from her curled position on the bed and grabbed her phone from her nightstand. 5:00 am, as per usual.
Groaning as she stretched again, she heard the aggravated mewling from the other side of the door, begging her to wake up. "I'm up, I'm up!" she complained to no one in particular, throwing her feet off the bed and rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
She hesitated, looking at her phone screen. She had received a message in the night, as she always did. "To my SCF," his message began, and the love note her fiance had written brought a smile to her face. Ignoring the frantic desperation of the cat trying to get into her room, she took a moment to reply, writing her own love note back to her "SBF."
Standing up, she wrapped the housecoat around her and opened the door. An orange and white cat rushed into the room, looking up at her and meowing indignantly, upset at being kept waiting.
"Morning, Tucker," she said in hushed tones to the cat, and she walked down the hallway into the kitchen. Tucker followed suite, entangling himself under her feet trying to get close to her.721Please respect copyright.PENANAwYPdur3wgt
Another cat joined the tired shuffle to the kitchen, barreling in from the living room at full tilt. The bigger black and white cat stopped and waited patiently for her food, as Tucker crawled around the girl's feet.
Happily fed, the kitties took to eating their food, and the woman looked at the calendar on the table. August 16th. Under the day, written in black pen in her mother's handwriting: Meet Tracy.
Right, the girl thought to herself as she shuffled tiredly back to her room, Mom needs a drive after lunch. As she flopped back into bed, she planned out her entire day like it was an obsession.721Please respect copyright.PENANAJR6ZFKxc0x
Write until 8. Pack the suitcase and clean up until 12. Stop for lunch and watch Netflix until Mom's ready to go. Drive Mom to Kemptville. Get some groceries while Mom's visiting her friend. Stop at a coffee shop and do more writing until mom calls to come home. Come home by 3:30 at the latest. Skype Shane at 4. Make dinner for 5. Clean up. meet Shane at 6 for an hour of gaming. Her mind slowed down as she thought about the few hours she had unplanned and free in the evening. What did she feel like doing? Watch a movie? Maybe do some more writing? Pamper herself in a bath? She was free to do whatever she wanted, after all. So what did she want?
The girl released her breath slowly and sat up in her bed. She never did know how to handle her spare time. Maybe she should play a game, or visit her friends, or play a board game with her parents. The possibilities were endless!
And that's exactly why that three hour period before bed was always daunting to her. No plans, no expectations, just fun.
How she hated it.
There was more scratching at her door, and the gentle meow pleaded at her to let him in. Sighing, she scrambled to the end of the bed to let Tucker inside her room. Closing the door behind him, she glared at him. "You're a little shit-disturber, you know that?"
He meowed at her and purred loudly, joining her on the bed and bumping his head against her hand.
She petted him idly. "Alright, let's get moving."
Stepping down from the bed, she started getting dressed. She grabbed an over-sized t-shirt and comfortable shorts. It looked ridiculous on her, but she hardly cared. Most of her clothes were already packed into a suitcase on the floor. Within minutes, she was dressed and moving, brushing her long hair and pulling it back into a tight ponytail. Then, ushering the cat out of the room, she closed the door and sat down at her computer.
Staring at the blank word document, she hesitated a moment. Her phone beeped as her fiance responded to her message. "I love you too," she replied through text with a smile, adding a healthy dose of heart emojis to her message. Putting the phone down, she turned back to the computer.
"Let's get this day started," she mumbled to herself as she started to type.721Please respect copyright.PENANAV6O9GuDK7m
