”Lighten up a little,” he laughed as they got in line. “Besides, I think noodle arms look good on you. They might be in style.”
He and Emma ran up to the next launchers. Rowan grabbed the only pumpkin left, a large heavy one, and walked back over to Emma.
”Sorry. There weren’t any left.”
Emma took one look and practically melted onto the ground. “I don’t think I can do this.” She moaned as Rowan loaded it onto the cords.
”Oh, come on! It’ll be fun once you win, right?”
”...I hate it when you’re positive, you know that?”
Emma grabbed the cords and started stepping backwards, her feet almost slipping every few steps.
Rowan looked over and abandoned his own pumpkin slingshot, wrapping his arms around Emma’s middle and lifted her up.
”What the-? Rowan what are you doing?”
”Um, helping you?” He grunted.
Emma looked back at the pumpkin launcher. “Left! Go left...right more! Too far, too far! Ack, left again! And...stop! Perfect!”
Emma let go, watching the pumpkin sail up high...and land directly in the garbage can.
Rowan whooped and spun Emma around. Emma laughed, her hair flying wildly as she leaned down and kissed Rowan. Rowan set her down gently, his eyes never leaving hers.
”Told you it’d be fun,” he whispered.
”I never said it wouldn’t.” Emma replied, a grin spreading on her face.
