We reach our destination quickly, though I suspect not quickly enough for the driver. We all contribute toward his fare and tip and as he pulls away I stop myself from grabbing on to the rear bumper.
We stay talking outside the hotel entrance, each of us surreptitiously adjusting our hair and jackets, eyebrows and pant legs. As a means to cover this mass grooming project, we discuss and agree that our employers probably picked this particular establishment due to the known fact that the hotel's restaurant manager is the husband of our area manager and briefly bemoan the corruption of the world as a whole.
Inside a large crowd has already gathered. I was looking forward to seeing the girls out of their dowdy uniforms and in low-cut tops, short skirts and, all going well, low-cut, short dresses. I stare impassively through the double glazed glass of the double doors at their good cleavage and tight asses. I tell myself I'm excited. My crotch believes me but it has always been gullible. The rest of me feels burnt-out and bleached.
This is our night and more than likely the pinnacle of what we can expect in our lives; free alcohol and reheated finger food. I take one last breath of cold air before we enter and I consider offering any woman here all the money in my wallet if she would only come to a dark closet with me and let me rest my head on her shoulder. But, as I pass from the cool night into the warm, noisy atmosphere inside, I know how tonight will go just as I know I would eventually proposition that woman, try for a sloppy drunken kiss and, whether we did or did not, brag about screwing her for weeks to come.
