As I sat on a park bench in the cool of the afternoon and watched the ducks swim happily in circles. As I watched the children play on the playground and dogs jump with joy as their owners petted them, I felt a cold brush against my cheek as a slice of winter made its way across my body. Wind can be described in more ways than one. It can be the helping hand of an old mentor giving some reminiscent encouragement. It can be the tragic voice of a loved one past making sure you don't give up. It can be the cold and dark reminder of the job you just lost or the painful reminder that the woman you love is entirely too good for you. The wind has many roles in life. Wind can be a fresh steady chill in the night or the monstrous power blowing gallons of water in the sky ready to pour out rain upon the land. Life is more complicated than a box of chocolates. We are born through the miraculous and beautiful works of biology. We live a life full of happiness, although we reach obstacles I always thought of any hardships delayed success. We find love in all things and craftsmanship among the smallest things. From the delicate pattern on a snowflake to the steadfast love of a mother and their child. I come to this bench to think about the world, where we are headed, where we have been, and most certainly where we started. I believe in miracles, for life certainly cannot be defined as anything short of a miracle. As I stare into the vast mystery of the heavens and my breath becomes short. All I can remember is the good times. My mom holding my hand after I fell down. The soft and delicious taste of ice cream and the nonsensical gate of immortality I felt while growing through teenhood. Life is certainly a marvel of creation. I grew up and matured, went to college, married, had a child, and grew into old age without a doubt in the world that I had lived life to the fullest. Now here I sit on the park bench, looking at the trees, feeling the cold and gentle breeze caress my skin, and all I can think to myself is why. Why are we here on this marvelous planet to enjoy all these things. To gaze in wonder at the infinite possibilities before us. To enjoy the absolute splendor of a sunrise. To think back on things past is certainly folly as we look ahead to the future and the beauty before us. As I stare into the bright yellows and dull oranges of the sunrise and my life begins to fade. My mind is at peace and I draw in my last breath with a loving confirmation that although I have lived in this world for many years. I haven't even scratched the surface of the awe-inspiring beauty and mystique the world has to offer.
