305 Years Later . . .
The owls, who should have been fast asleep by now, were screeching indignantly. Foxes and Raccoons were putting aside differences, and howling at the top of their lungs as though to call for help. Bambi woke with a jolting start, rearing his front so he could get away from a troublesome frog. Y/n had unfortunately took a liking to sleeping on Bambi's back, so she had fallen off almost immediately with a daft scream.
ย ย ย Zephyr screeched and pulled at her h/c hair in a concerned type-of-way. She got up, wafting her hand gently and saying "m'okay."
ย ย ย To put you all up to speed, Y/n L/n is , at this point, a three hundred and five year old Forest Spirit living in a forest just off the East side of a town named Penzance. She looked to be seventeen years old, wearing a dress made of long leaves, and vines intertwined with her forearms and ankles. She wore no shoes, as she liked to watch as plants grew at her feet. If you were to ever see Y/n, you'd think her for a psychopath. But of course no one had ever seen Y/n before, no one except her friends Zephyr and Bambi. This was because for a spirit to be seen, they must be believed in. And no one from Penzance knew the existence of Y/n L/n.ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกIXvDV5FIgf
ย ย ย Nothing fun happened in Penzance in Y/n's point of view, as everything Y/n did was something she'd already done, having been three hundred and five years old.ย
ย ย ย It was strange to have such a random day begin so sourly. In fact, it was a pretty day to say the least. The tree leaves left a dappled pattern of sunlight on the green forest floor, and new flowers of all different shapes, colours and sizes were beginning to bloom. Y/n got up and patted Bambi, yawning loudly. It took her a few moments to realize her forest was in complete chaos, as zero things seemed to happen anymore, and she thought she was just dreaming. But when she had snapped out of it, the noise was deafening and she could no longer think. A fox came and yipped at her ankles, and a pigeon flew down and pecked the top of her head.
ย ย ย "Zephyr!" she yelled over the sound, wafting away the pigeon with a scowl on her face, "how do I shut them up?!"
ย ย ย Quite comedically, the little blackbird flew into the air and mimicked a shouting Y/n. So she wearily jumped on Bambi's back, stood up and yelled like the elegant girl she is.ย
ย ย ย "Can you PLEASE,ย SHUT UP!"
ย ย ย Silence fell.ย
ย ย ย Sighing loudly, she sat down back on Bambi's back. "Oh, the cleverness of me..."ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกAROJbo2d98
ย ย ย The reminiscence of a story a boy named Corey had once told ran through her head. It had been a long time since she had heard one of Corey's stories, and she missed them quite a lot. Two hundred and eighteen years, it had been.
ย ย "Wait - Zeph, you don't mind asking what on earth that was about?"
ย ย ย Zephyr made a tweet and flew away.
ย ย ย "Right - what's the date again? I can never remember. C'mon Bambi, let's go to that village. I want to know what's happening."
ย ย ย After a short ride to Penzance, she watched as children slopped around, searching for things sadly and with unhappy expressions. Y/n squinted her eyes, a confused look on her face, as she tried piecing things together. And finally, she gasped with triumph.
ย ย ย "It must be Easter Sunday, right? The egg-hunts must be going on. But... Why do they look so sad?"
ย ย ย The boys and girls were carrying around empty baskets, kicking about in the dirt. There was no reason to be sad on Easter Sunday, as all you'd get would be gigantic colourful eggs made of chocolate (which are just made with happiness themselves). It's like when someone yawns and everyone else yawns too. Happiness is contagious. So why would anyone be sad?ย Maybe it's really hard to find the eggs this year?ย Y/n thought to herself. It was hard to try and not remember what had happened five years prior to this; the eggs had gone that year too, and the guardians had gone missing. Forgotten about, even. No one believed in them, so nobody saw them. But when Y/n saw the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause appear at Christmas, she knew all was well, though it was strange for the rabbit to come at winter. Nowadays though, not many things surprised Y/n. Awakening to be a timeless Forest Spirit was the first hint life would be strange, really.
ย ย ย "Do you reckon," she said to Bambi, slipping off his back and stepping out of the forests shade, walking into the sunlight of Penzance, "I could make them all happy if I give them some flowers..?"
ย ย ย Y/n made her way across a park, and came across two very sad looking children. One was searching aimlessly in a bush, the other kicking about at the dirt.
ย ย ย "I thought the Easter Bunny was real," sighed the one kicking with dirt. She was a little girl, taller than the other child, with blonde hair and brown eyes.
ย ย ย "Heย isย real, Susie! I know he is!" said the other. He was aย lotย smaller than Susie, with brown shaggy hair, blue eyes and quite pale skin.
ย ย ย "And you can say that, can't you? Because you'veย seenย him," scoffed Susie. "This is useless. I'm going home, Daniel."
ย ย ย And she walked off.
ย ย ย The little boy, Daniel, seemed to have finally given up too. He slumped onto the grass and sighed.
ย ย ย Y/n took this as an opportunity. She sat beside him, and slowly hovered her hand above the grass. She had taught herself a trick, you see. If she did this, then plants would grow. The grass here decided it wanted to be daffodils, and the usual buttercup yellow flowers begun to grow. Three flowers, two of which yellow. The other one? a pure white.
ย ย ย "Kid, it's not that bad. I mean - missing out on chocolate is bad, but I sure hope these flowers make you feel better," whispered Y/n.
ย ย ย Daniel looked up and stared. Y/n thought for a second he saw her, or heard her, but when he quickly looked down she wafted the thought away. At the sight of the flowers, he looked so shocked. They hadย notย been there before. A smile crept onto his face as he delicately bobbed one of the heads.
ย ย ย "Mom liked daffodils!" he said excitedly, and without a second thought, picked the three flowers and ran away, waving them aboveย his head.
ย ย ย Y/n chuckled softly at what she had done.ย At least heย isn't sad anymore, she thought.ย As long as they're happy.
โ
ย ย ย The three hundredth year was when Zephyr told Y/n via his usual games of charades a new Guardian was brought to the table. Jack Frost, a winter spirit, had been chosen by the Man in the Moon to help the others.354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกzurhA7avh9
ย ย ย Y/n had no liking to the boy, as he would ruin her plants with his cold, and Bambi and Zephyr refused to come outside of their hiding spots for months when the snow had fallen. To Y/n, Jack Frost was a snow-faced, good-for-nothing, big and stupidย looser. Just the thought of him made her kick a tree stump and stubbing her toe.
ย ย ย Back to the story, Y/n begun to mindlessly search for eggs herself. Having another shock like five years ago wouldn't be very nice. Alas, when even she couldn't find any, panic began to rise. Even more so when Zephyr came flying back, from wherever he went, that evening.
ย ย ย It had gone dark, the sun had set. Y/n was lying on Bambi's back, while he grazed on tree bark. When Zephyr could be heard tweeting in distress, the two of them looked up. Nothing could really frighten Zephyr unless it was a skunk with a crude expression on it's face. Zephyr flew round a tree corner, and flew right onto Bambi's antlers, breathing heavily. There was a piece of parchment paper clutched between his bird-toes.
ย ย ย Y/n took the paper, unwound it and read what it said:
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐.
ย ย ย Y/n snorted. "Who isย Kejalupa?"
ย ย ย At the words, Zephyr and Bambi flinched. Y/n raised a concerned eyebrow.
ย ย ย "Uh... Guys? Who is it?"
ย ย ย Zephyr tweeted loudly, and Bambi pricked his ears worriedly. The little blackbird flew into his hole and begun pecking at something that sounded glasslike. Y/n slid off Bambi and reached into the tree. She felt something smooth, and pulled it out.
ย ย ย "Oh, this is incredibly old," said Y/n. The thing in question was the snow-globe she had stolen from Santa's sleigh all those years ago, but it appeared to have not aged a day.
ย ย ย If birds could speak their minds, then Zephyr would be explaining what Y/n should be doing at this moment. But we've seemed to hit an unlucky snag, as all Y/nย couldย hear was a series of informative tweets.
ย ย ย "Your continuousย tweetingย doesn't tell me anything, Zeph. Besides, what has this to do with 'Kejalupa'?"
ย ย ย The two animals flinched again, and Zephyr made an angry tweet. Bambi huffed at the little bird, and the two began to speak in the annoying secret animal language no one could understand.
ย ย ย "Don't says the name, you stupids girl!"ย tweeted Zephyr, in his usual childish voice.
ย ย ย "She's not actually waking up, is she?"ย said Bambi in his more sophisticated and grown-up tone.
ย ย ย "Yous askings me like I is knowing, Bamboo"
ย ย ย "Don't call me that, it's BAMBI... - who wrote the note?"
ย ย ย "... So, there's this pretty bird that told me that the Snowy Owls was looking for me. I go overs to his tree and he gives me this notes saying it's from the big North persons."
ย ย ย Bambi's warm brown eyes opened widely, and Y/n noticed this. She couldn't hear a word of the conversation, of course. It feels like if you ever go to a foreign country, and everyone's speaking in a language you don't understand, and you don't know whether they're saying things about you if you ask for directions.
ย ย ย Bambi and Zephyr couldn't tell anything to Y/n, and the fact that the 'big North persons' being in trouble couldn't be heard was quite a problem. Because if you were an animal, you would have heard of Kejalupa. No one spoke her name, they often just called her 'the Big Bad Wolf'. And yes, she's the one who tricked Little Red Riding Hood. She's the one who howls on top of cliff edges. She's the one who stopped Belle's father from getting home that one night from the woods.
ย ย ย Kejalupa may sound to you, right now, like a 'good dog'. But what if I told you that in this world, Belle never met the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood never came out of the cottage, and those who run from a howling wolf are never to be seen again? Yes, Kejalupa is most definitely the Big, Bad Wolf. The Big Bad Wolf that took away people's happy endings.
ย ย ย But over five hundred years ago, it was said that the Guardians of Childhood had locked away the wolf in a cave, and was sentenced under a powerful sleeping curse for all of time itself. Something must have woken her up, most definitely.ย
โ
ย ย ย Let's go back in time a bit. Over to the North pole, a day before Easter. A normal Saturday of work for Santa Clause, or as others called him, North. North was a big guy like the stories, with his big fluffy white beard, but the one thing they forgot to mention were the sleeves of tattoos all the way down both of his arms. One with 'Naughty', the other with 'Nice', decorated with different patterns. Theย realย Santa Clause was a lot more badass354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกDkjI8HXUQW
ย ย ย The day was normal as could be in the workshop, with the big Yeti's painting toys, and the elves being dumb and stupid. It all changed when a Bunny, bigger than you and I, burst through the door with a look of pure terror on his face.
ย ย ย "Bunny! 'Tis good to be zeeing zyou, what iz problem, my friend? Easter iz a few dayz away," said North with his usual thick Russian accent.
ย ย ย "B-Big - Bad - Wolf. She's back-" said Bunny in his Australian enunciation, gasping through each word. "Eggs - gone - destroyed - animals... dead."
ย ย ย "Codzwallop, Bunny, Kejalupa-?"
ย ย ย Bunny flinched.
ย ย ย "-She haz been asleep for centuriez."
ย ย ย "Yeah? Well she's back, all my damned eggs are gone! All the animals are dead, she attacked the Warren! She'sย back, North, she's coming to kill me! Youย knowย she's worse than Pitch Black, she doesn't have mercy for a single living soul!"
ย ย ย "If zyou are saying truth..." said North with a mystified look. The two of them walked over to a massive world globe with little lights dotted all over it.ย
ย ย ย The globe of belief was what it said on the tin. A globe with a record of how many people believed in the guardians.
ย ย ย "We must protect them... Zummon ze otherz."
ย ย ย "The Northern lights?"
ย ย "Yez, yez - one of zyou uzeless elvez, get on wiz it!"
ย ย ย One of North's tiny little elves ran over to a button on the control panel that surrounded the globe. With a tinkle of bells, it pressed a big red button, and the pretty blue, violet and emerald Northern lights emitted from the top of the towering workshop.
ย ย ย The Northern Lights were what the Guardians of Childhood used as a warning to get everyone together. They barely used them, and the last time they did was just five years ago, during the Pitch Black dilemma. Luckily for them, the Man in the Moon had given them a new Guardian, we know asย the snow-faced, good-for-nothing, big and stupid looser.ย Or in nicer words, Jack Frost.
ย ย ย Together, the five of them had defeated Pitch Black, though Sandman they lost through it, he came back in the end and the children were saved once more.
ย ย ย It was perfectly custom for Jack Frost to be in the middle of a snowball fight, or tripping over on an icy pond pond, as he was the Guardian of Fun. He carried round a hooked stick that usually was the force of his powers, but he couldn't exactly help it if he touched something with his bare feet and it curled into fern-like frost patterns on the floor.ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกS2tB9zZZFn
ย ย ย He had hair as white as snow, and teeth exactly the same. He has a tall and slim figure, with the look of a seventeen year old. Jack wears a blue hooded sweater, frost collecting around the ring of the collar, and trousers bound with lace starting from the knee down to the rather tattered and frayed bottom. He has an almost dead look to him, with icy-pale skin. But his eyes were so perfectly alive; they were a sapphire blue, and if you looked in them carefully, there were tiny little snowflakes incrusted in his iris.354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผก2vcrHmBQoK
ย ย ย Fortunately, Jack had been tricking some Yeti's in the entrance of North's workshop, so he made himself a quick getaway to get to the globe.
ย ย ย The Tooth Fairy, or Toothiana, or even Tooth (as her friends called her) was a very busy guardian. She worked every day, mostly naming out different parts of the world she needed to send workers to, or making sure the Tooth Palace was kept in order. Yes, there is a Tooth Palace. It's a wonderful place; with brilliant golden spires and great stained glass windows, each one imprinted with a different story.ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกhrEkOSnZhT
ย ย ย Toothiana kept every tooth inside a golden tube. Inside was a cushion designed specifically for each tooth of every child in the entire world. That's right! All two point two billion of them, and even those teeth of people who are no longer children. which means over seven billion teeth tubes are in that palace. That means the Tooth Fairy keepsย overย fourteenย billionย teeth, no questions asked. 'Why does she even bother?', you may be wondering. You see, teeth aren't just calcium; they're memories. Maybe one started wobbling because you had hit your mouth on the side of the door, or had chewed too hard on a burger. And put together could show someone their deepest memory, maybe one they had forgotten, that had been locked away into a chamber in their own mind; A blank spot. If you'd ever try to look back, nothing would ever be there. Unless, of course, you see the teeth.ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกj8xO7BUWij
ย ย ย Mere minutes after North sent the northern lights, Tooth gasped and whizzed away.
ย ย ย The Sandman, or Sandy, kept his days sleeping and re-energizing, because at night was when he thrived. He had golden hair that stuck up in different places, and wore a robe made of golden thread. The Sandman is a tiny little plump man, with golden eyes. He was the one who gives people their good dreams, and he possessed the power to create anything with sand. That is of course, why we call him the sandman.ย 354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกFipAIS0UGU
ย ย ย One of my personal favourite qualities of him is the fact that he cannot speak, and he has to use his sand to show people what he's thinking about. I don't know whether that then means it's easier to lie, or you can only tell the truth. This quality also made it incredibly easy to spot things others didn't. Speaking made you less concentrated, so not being able to made you had an extra super power.354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกqs1rvrWjYc
ย ย ย Sandy was just finishing off a dream when he spotted the Northern Lights. He made himself a plane out of his dream sand, and flew off in the direction of the Workshop.
ย ย ย When the five of them were finally together, Bunny was able to explain truly what had happened in the Warren, his home.
ย ย ย "It was a chaos. You could hear her growling and before I knew it, everything was gone. I ran for my life, and I didn't dare look back."
ย ย ย "I don't understand, Bunny - who is thisย Kejalupa?" said Jack Frost, propping himself up on his hooked staff.
ย ย ย Bunny shivered at the name, and spoke. "She's who all of us should fear to speak. She's been sleeping for about five hundred years now, we made sure of it - but what made her wake up now? Aย dayย before Easter? Not even a day, sorry, a fewย hours?" cried Bunny angrily, stomping his feet. He took a deep breath and continued. "We call her the Big Bad Wolf. She's the one from all those children's fairy tales, but the tales don't end up so well when you hear that wolf and her pack."
ย ย ย "Pack?!"ย Tooth and North exclaimed. Sandy drew an exclamation mark above his head.
ย ย ย "Pack. There were about fifty of 'em..."
ย ย ย "What are we supposed to do? Oh no... Oh no, no, no, no..." muttered Tooth, whizzing back and fourth.
ย ย ย "Manny could help uz out, he alwayz doez," said North, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
ย ย ย Sandy created himself a little question mark, and an arrow pointing to Jack.
ย ย ย "What do you mean, Sandy? Me? What can I do against a wolf?"
ย ย ย "I mean - five years ago, we used your center to put Pitch Black back in his rightful place!" said Tooth anxiously.
ย ย ย "If she's free now, of all times, I think Pitch would've told her about him," said Bunny. "Besides, Easter isย tomorrowย ! Everyone's going to forget about meย again!"
ย ย ย "How would she have seen Pitch, though?" said Jack.
ย ย ย "Those two... They were best of friends in dark agez, Jack Frost," said North wearily, his voice almost a hoarse whisper.
ย ย ย "We won't be able to get rid of both of them - that is, even if the Wolf did get herย bezzie mateย back too. I swear we locked Pitch away for good, I don't think even a wolf that size could sniff him out," said Bunny rather stiffly.
ย ย ย "We can only hope," sighed North.
ย ย ย Sandy patted Bunny on his shoulder gently as he hung his head.
ย ย ย But if you remember a few lines back, North said something about a guy called Manny. Manny is short for the Man in the Moon. He's the guy who reincarnated Y/n three hundred and five years ago, Along with the rest of the spirits and guardians.ย
ย ย ย It was around this time when the moon began to shift it's place quite quickly, into a circled, window-less part of the workshop. North had created this circle so that Manny could talk to the guardians when he needed to, and now was one of those times.354Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผกS5Q7yE0XST
ย ย ย No one noticed it, not even Sandy, as it drew closer and closer, until it finally shone brightly. A full moon with a full beam shone directly into one specific spot in the room, which made all the guardians look straight up.
ย ย ย "Manny! I new zyou would come! What iz big news?"
ย ย ย The beam of moonlight shone still, onto a crested 'G' on the floor. The guardians all stepped away, knowing exactly what was about to happen.
ย ย ย A shadow of a scruffy wolf emitted through the beams. It looked from side to side, then howled with no sound.ย
ย ย ย "Big, Bad Wolf..." North muttered.
ย ย ย "I told you, North!" said Bunny, fear completely covering his body. "She's back!"
ย ย ย North looked up and scowled at Bunny. He then looked up again to look at the moon.
ย ย ย "Tell uz, old friend. What should we do?"
ย ย ย As soon as he said this, the 'G' on the floor opened up to reveal a trap door filled with light. A pedestal rose up, and it carried a giant gleaming blue crystal with it. The light from the moon, and the reflection of the crystal contrasted, and the beams created some sort of magical energy.
ย ย ย "No way... Guys! You know what this means," said Tooth, buzzing around.
ย ย ย "He iz choosing new guardian!" finished North.
ย ย ย "Good, no ice-boy is going to help us with this monster," said Bunny.
ย ย ย "Hey!" Jack growled.
ย ย ย "I wonder who it's going to be!" cheered Tooth. "Oh, it has to be the Leprechaun this time!"
ย ย ย Sandy made a picture of a bow and arrow above his head.
ย ย ย "Maybe it's Cupid?" said Tooth.
ย ย ย "No! Not him, he's soย lovey-dovey," said Jack.
ย ย ย "Please not the Groundhog... Please not the Groundhog!" whispered Bunny, crossing his paws.ย
ย ย ย There was a violent gush of wind, and a giant beam of light, and the image of a person appeared. It was not the Leprechaun, nor was it Cupid, and not even the Groundhog.
ย ย ย It was Y/n.
ย ย ย "Y/n... He means Y/n L/n?" said Tooth. She was excited to see another girl on the team.
ย ย ย "It's not the Groundhog... I've never seen her before," said Bunny.
ย ย ย "Yeah... My baby teeth always talk about how she's hiding from you guys," laughed Tooth. "But she's so kind to them, gives them flowers to eat from every time she sees one. She lives in that forest near Penzance!"
ย ย ย "Wait -ย that'sย Y/n L/n?" gasped Jack, stumbling backward. "No! Sheย hatesย my guts - my god -ย Iย hate her guts!" he defensively poked his hand into his chest.
ย ย ย North laughed. "You will have to learn to like her, Jack Frost. What Manny says, goez."
ย ย ย "But how canย sheย be one of us? She's a self centered, grass-eating, good-for-nothing -"
ย ย ย "Guardian!" finished North.
ย ย ย "She's a wonderful Forest Spirit, Jack!" squealed Tooth in a matter-of-fact-ly kind of tone.
ย ย ย "Since when were Forest Spirits powerful enough to get rid of that - thatย thingย hiding in my Warren?"
ย ย ย "I do not know, Bunny, don't ask me - but Manny thinks it iz her time to be Guardian," North exclaimed, smiling at Y/n's translucent figure.
ย ย ย "Wouldn't believe it," said Jack through gritted teeth.
ย ย ย "When are we getting her? Oh, I vouch going!" said Tooth, jabbing her hand in the air.
ย ย ย "Bunny, I am sorry, but Easter will have to be cancelled this year," said North, patting the stubborn rabbit on the back. "We shall set off tomorrow."
ย ย ย The guardians had their tricks of getting places, of course. Jack Frost would ride the wind, Tooth would use her pretty fairy wings. Sandy would make himself trains and planes out of sand, Bunny would create himself tunnels and North had special snow-globes that if you threw and whispered a place to, would create portals.
ย ย ย As we all know, something went wrong that day; we recalled Easter at the start of this chapter, and at nightfall there wasn't a single sign of any of the guardians. Y/n didn't know any of this. She couldn't possibly know anyone was in danger - heck, she didn't even know what the Big Bad Wolf had in store for her.ย
โ
ย ย ย Again, I'm going to take you back. Saturday, the day before Easter again. Morning, just as the day had begun.
ย ย ย Kejalupa is no bigger than a full grown Kodiak bear. Her coat was scruffy and black, teeth as sharp as knives and eyes like red, piercing daggers. Her paws as big as dustbin lids, and her claws immaculately sharp. Her body was covered in scratches and scars, and most significant was the three marks that drew over her left eye.
ย ย ย When she had been cursed, she was taken to a cave deep, deep down in Mount Everest, where people were more interested in going to the top than the bottom. No one had disturbed her there.
ย ย ย Though there were a pack of wolves set on waking her up. They had climbed for days, just to get to see their to-be savior. Wolves are surely loyal, and this pack was brought up to awaken the great beast. They tread through the deep snow, living barely off of the limited plants on their way.
ย ย ย They reached her cave sure enough, and gnawed at the chains binding her in place like they were fresh meat. After hard work, they of course fell off. All most like butter, and there was a great clashing sound in the dark as the rust hit stone. Then a starved, grey wolf brought a single dead bird, and lay it down gently in front of Kejalupa's great nose.
ย ย ย It twitched, and her eyes opened.
ย ย ย No sooner had the great wolf emerged, she stood firmly at the highest point of the world, and emit a blood-curdling, booming howl.
ย ย ย Kejalupa was awake.
And oh, GOD - how she wanted to kill.
