In a day not so far from now, a secret lab in Siberia was experimenting with a new type of bioweapon called STUTTER. The stutter was a bacteria that was waterborne and passed through organisms such as cattle. After infecting an organism, it proceeded to destroy nerves, primarily those in the tongue area of the mouth. While the tongue was affected first, the bacteria would spread to other parts of the body, gradually paralyzing the organism where eventually it would kill the host.
While this sounds a lot like a virus, it was a bacteria, one that thrived in damp, warm areas, so the Siberian scientists were fairly certain that it would not escape. That plan was foiled when a higher-up came to visit the facility. This Russian commander was in charge of the secret operation. He was briefed on everything and anything that happened in the facility. For example, he knew the bacteria was slow-acting, taking close to 2 years for it to kill, and that it frequently showed symptoms like ALS, making it so that doctors wouldn't know it was a bioweapon.
He was coming to discuss the use of the weapon it wasn't for assassination but global pandemics so that a given population would slowly lose their senses and die. He planned on using it against Russia's main aggressor, the United States, and from there it would spread to places such as Canada, Mexico, and wherever Americans went. Russia itself would be put under lockdown and its citizens vaccinated against the bacteria and using the cure the researchers developed, they would leverage it against other countries, coming out top as a global powerhouse. If all else failed and everyone except Russia died, then Russia would go and claim all of the failed nation's tech and power, becoming the sole monarch, and as the population grew, it would come to dominate the world.
But this was all the government's intent, not what happened. It all started with a young researcher, he was born in a time of relative peace in Russia, but that didn't mean that human rights went unviolated. His parents were both researchers, and after failing to do what the superiors asked, they were both purged. Due to this, the researcher gained hatred toward the government, especially toward a person like the commander coming to inspect. He secretly planned on giving the commander the bacteria, and having him spread it to the other members of government before they realized what was happening, but to do that he needed to be careful.
First of all, as a researcher, they had already devised a cure to the disease (Which would kill the bacteria, keeping it from destroying any more nerves) and a vaccine (Which would kill the bacteria whenever it entered the system). All members of the researching staff were vaccinated to prevent them from accidentally getting the disease, and also so it wouldn't be used against them. However, in a joint effort, they didn't disclose this to their superiors. But every one of the researchers was capable of creating the cure, and if the government officials got a hold of one of them, then they'd be cured and the vengeful researcher's revenge would be left half done.
So as the commander came in, the researcher secretly grabbed a vial of STUTTER, and he swallowed it. Because he was immune, he had nothing to fear from it, and he slowly swallowed, making sure to coat the inside of this mouth. Then as he escorted the commander, he coughed In his direction, and the commander breathed STUTTER straight into his body. Smiling despite himself, the researcher continued to show the commander around.
The commander left, and as he did the researcher set some bombs up in the facility. Stowing away in the commander's plane, he hid and pressed a button. The bombs went off, and due to the facility being underground, it made no sound. The commander wouldn't know about anything until he landed and the communication personnel figured out why they couldn't reach the facility. The researcher blew up the facility so that all the evidence on how to create the cure and vaccines would be destroyed. He planned on getting out of the country as soon as possible, waiting to see the destruction.
All of this played out, the commander spread the virus, and before long most of the populace was infected. The results were slow but soon everyone realized what was happening. The researcher long disappeared and as people tried to find the cure they realized that the facility was blown up and there were no survivors. By this time the disease had spread all over the world, and the nation was gathering personnel to study the nature of the disease and develop the cure. Eventually, the United States government created a cure, but those infected first were too long gone to save. This led to riots over the cure as the government prioritized giving recently infected members the cure first.
Other nations that didn't have the cure also grew hostile toward the states as they desired it for themselves. The nations quickly split into factions, and the world dissolved into anarchy. Since the disease affected the mouth first, eating and speaking were gone first. The members who lost that ability needed a way to communicate and losing that meant that everyone became mute.
A small stutter was the first sign of disease, soon after losing the ability to talk and move the tongue, eating became an issue. Then you would lose sensations in your fingers and toes. This would spread up your appendages until eventually your heart would stop beating and your brain would stop functioning.
Despite it, all the cure was distributed, and most younger members of the populace got it. The cure would prevent future infection and newborn babies would be free from the disease. Despite it all, people kept fighting and governments kept collapsing until the infected died and all that was left were the rare few who got the cure, standing amid a ruined world.208Please respect copyright.PENANArlAwcWiXKa
These people banded together. Some of them could still use their hands and feet, others couldn't. Some of them could speak, others couldn't. This gap in ability led to a fair number of fights, as those who couldn't rely on those who could, and those who could weren't always ready to help. So even with the bacteria gone, the world still fought.
It's hard to say what the ending was, maybe the people got over their differences and the new generation that was free from the curse of the STUTTER were able to cooperate, raising civilization once more. Or maybe the people kept fighting and the disabled people were left to fend for themselves. and the world dissolved into anarchy with a new generation nonexistent. There might have been a combination, with some places doing things one way, some places another. Overall, mankind still fought and squabbled and divided itself.
this was all come up with on the spot charitycheese takes full responsibility for all cringing and bad writing ;)
