Life had drastically changed for Bonnie Blaise Bennett in what felt like one single excruciatingly long day, when in actuality it was weeks going on months.
At the beginning of the summer, her father was killed in a head on collision with a drunk driver while in Chicago on a job. Ever since that day she had been living with her grandmother. And one could say that’s where her troubles began or rather… began again.
“Bon, you coming?” A voice to her right asked.
She blinked once, twice, then looked up to see Caroline and Elena watching her expectantly. Her thoughts were sufficiently interrupted as she remembered she was still standing at her locker. It was the first day of her junior year at Mystic Falls High and she had a lot of work to do.
“This is the only class we have together. Of course I’m coming,” she said with a roll of her eyes. “But, I’ve gotta make a pit stop at the main office first. Pretty sure they fucked up my schedule. Save me seat?”
Not giving the girls a chance to stop her, she walked off in search of a peculiar brunette that was sure to be making a debut soon.
Rounding the corner, she stopped at the water fountain and rested against the wall. She had a perfect view of the receptionist sitting at the front desk.
Any minute now.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, a brooding brunette strolled through the halls and into the office. She watched as he persuaded his way into high school and smirked. It was time to play.
Pulling out her burner phone, she typed out a message and pressed send.
The brunette paused on his way out of the office and visibly stiffened when he read the message. His reaction was all the confirmation she needed. With one chess piece moved into position, the great game began and nothing short of an apocalypse could stop it.
