I breathed in the fresh air as me and Blindspear flew though the air, flipping and diving and feeling the cool breeze rush over our scales. It was wonderful. I was actually happy. I surveyed the area. There was a team of dragons fixing one of the tall palace spires that had collapsed a few days ago during awind storm that the Air Dragons were suspected of causing.
Out here I could see as far as the Blade Wall, which was just long metal spikes poking out of the ground, signalling where our kingdom met the Blade Kingdom to the west, and the long river to the north where the Ice Kingdom started. The Mountain Dragon kingdom was the biggest of all the tribes. It was so big that I couldn't see to where I knew the Air Kingdom started to the east. Blindspear grinned as she looked over to me. "Wanna go to the Air Kingdom?" She said. I did, but if we were caught I would probably get dropped from the Second Line to the Eighth Line. It would be even worse for Blindspears family, considering that they weren't royalty. "I can see you're worrying. It'll be fine!" Blindspear said.
I finally agreed and we sped off, away from the Blade Wall and the Mountain Palace, toward the Air Kingdom. When we were within the Air Kingdom, the temperature started dropping. Fast. It gave me chills and I was tiring quickly, but I wanted to keep going. The fierce wind howled around us. It was as if we had accidentally gone to the Ice Kingdom. "Blindspear, are we going the right way, I can't tell!" I was yelling over the wind so she could hear me. All Mountain Dragons had a built-in compass, so we would always know where we were, but here it didn't seem to work. "I don't know, but I think we should turn ba-" Her voice was interrupted by something. "Blindspear?" I said. I was worrying about what happened to her. Something slammed into me, then everything went black.
"Mountain Dragon, wake up!" a male voice said from above me. I slowly opened one of my eyes, then the other. "WAKE UP! CHOP CHOP! THE KING IS WAITING!" I groaned. "I'm awake. What do yo-" I cut myself off as I realised it was an Air Dragon talking. I also realised that I hadn't actually said anything, because I had an iron band around my snout. I looked around and saw I was surrounded by lots of Air Dragons; and when I say lots, I mean LOTS. There must have been at least TWENTY of them. I jumped to my feet and slowly turned in a circle, low growls escaping my throat. I have never actually seen an Air Dragon in real life, and now that I think about it, I've never even read a book about what they look like. I peered at the one who had been talking. He was a shiny white colour, with spots of blue on him. I could swear I also saw flashes of green under his scales. His wings are HUGE. Each one must be seven metres long. He has four horns, two on each side of his head. his eyes were creepily black. There wasn't even a pupil in them. He had a long tail, with venomous spikes at the end. I knew that they were venomous from someone who was studying Air Dragons, in case we ever needed to fight them. Air Dragon tails also doubled as a spiked whip, so not only could they whip you, but their spikes could smash into your skin and poison you with their slow-but-efficient venom that was very painful and would take weeks to kill you, and the worst part is, there isn't a cure.
"Quit staring." He snapped at me. I snorted at him, flames coming out of my nostrils. I remembered that Air Dragons didn't have fire. All they could do was create huge gusts of wind with their wings. "Alright, I'm getting bored now," An important sounding voice said from behind me. I turned and saw the Air Dragon king sitting on a throne he leaned forward, and I saw that he only had two horns on his head, looking like the other two had been ripped out of his head years ago. I hadn’t even noticed him. An Air Dragon stepped toward me and took the band of my snout so I could talk. Mountain dragonets didn't get their venom until they were ten years old, meaning I couldn't use venom on them. "So,' The king said, "what does a Mountain Dragonet do in the Air Kingdom? Surely you and your friend are too young to be spies. And why would your simple-minded tribe send a royal of all dragons to spy?" I hissed at him. I hated his voice and the way he talked. "I'm not a spy, and neither is Blindspear. We were just looking for some fun, so go stick that up your snout and smoke it until there's nothing left.” I said. I was angry. Very angry. Who do these stupid Air Dragons think they are to be holding me and Blindspear here? “Let us go, and we won’t tell the Queen about this.” I say, hoping that it would be enough. The Queen probably won’t actually care if these dragons kill me. She’ll probably just think ‘Yay, another challenger dead. One less for me to worry about’ which just infuriates me more. “I do not fear your queen, nor any other tribe ruler.” The king said as he tilted his head up. “You should!” I yell defiantly. The annoying king chuckles as he holds his talons up to his snout. Ew. Just ew. I hate the way his eyes look like balls of onyx but alive and moving. I shudder involuntarily. “But, as I do not want to waste my food and prison cells on two worthless dragonets, I shall let you go. But if you ever return, we will kill you.” He says. He nods at two of his guards and they lead me away. One of them gets Blindspear from a small holding cell. She is more than happy to be going.
It took half an hour to get back to the Mountain-Air dragon border. The guards had accompanied us all the way, and only once me and Blindspear were five thousand metres from the border did they leave, taking the weird sensation of their creepy black eyes on us with them. As it turns out, the cold temperatures and the wind from earlier were actually a defence mechanism to stop anyone who isn’t an Air Dragon from getting far while the guards were alerted and sent out to investigate. It must have been enchanted from Magicerion magic long ago, as there are no more Magicerions alive in the Air Dragon tribe. The only Magicerion holding tribes at the moment are the Feather Dragons, Wasp Dragons, and Leopard Dragons. I need to attend my lessons. I've already missed the first half of school, and I don't want to get my head bitten off by my mother. I head off in the direction of my class. I'm not looking forward to it.
