Daisy was having dinner with her parents at home.
Dad asked, “How’s the study going for the math exam tomorrow?” Daisy replied with a sigh, “I’ve been studying it for days, but I am still struggling.” Mom stopped eating for a second and said in a calm voice, “Honey, you are already doing your best, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
Daisy answered, “I know. But sometimes I wish I could just download all the information into my head. Just like in the movie Matrix.” Dad replied with a slight smile, “I am sure you are not the only one wishing to do that.”
After dinner, Daisy went back to her room. Lying on her bed, she wanted to study more but felt like her brain was already flooded. Suddenly, there was a ping on her phone and she took a look. It was an anonymous message about an app for Learning Anything in 5 Minutes.
She thought it would not hurt to just take a look at the app. So she clicked on the link in the message to download the app. After she opened the app, there was a list of topics. One was Middle School Math, so she clicked on that topic. Then the app displayed a message: Wear your headphones to continue.
Daisy thought the app must be working like an audiobook. So she didn’t hesitate. She put on her headphones and clicked Continue. But then she heard a short sequence of weird sounds. And she passed out right away.
About five minutes later…
She woke up in her bed and had a slight headache. She thought to herself, ‘I must have fallen asleep.’ And she couldn’t remember what the app had actually said to her.
But she felt really exhausted now. So she just walked to the door, turned off the light, and went straight back to bed.
The next day at school. She was still nervous before entering the exam room. But once she started the exam, she felt something very different. Because after she looked at the questions on the exam paper, the answers just popped up in her head. She couldn’t explain how but it certainly felt great!
At first, she was skeptical about whether or not the app had helped her ace the exam. But after she used the app again in a couple of other exams, she was certain of it. And with its help, she aced every exam for the rest of the semester.
One day after class. Her math teacher Mr. Howard asked her, “Hey Daisy, would you like to join the school team for the IMO competition next month?”
