Today's already Thursday and another week has gone by.
Millie, Cassie, and I are sitting at the uni's cafeteria. Both girls were seated in front of me. We were talking about our weekend plans.
"Can't we do something fun for once? I don't want to be trapped with books this weekend." Millie said, looking tired.
Cassie suggested, "We can always go to a coffee shop and---"
"And what? Talk about our subjects and other stuff related to law school again? No!!! I wanna dance and party" Millie scoffed, interrupting Cassie.
"I don't see why my suggestion was upsetting for you. At least we won't be studying", Cassie answered. I am just listening to both of them, and finding it entertaining how neither of them are willing to give way.
After a few minutes, I noticed how many people in the cafeteria looked towards the door. Yeah I think I know what's going on. I looked behind me and saw what the fuss was about. I was right. It's Nate and his friends. I noticed it's always five of them. There's Nate, Ashley, Nate's two male friends, and Ashley's one female friend.
As I looked towards the cafeteria door, I was surprised to see that Nate was already looking at me. However when our eyes met, he quickly looked away.
The cafeteria was already almost full, so the only available tables are the one right next to us and the ones on the opposite side, near the toilet.
"Let's just sit there", Nate said in a calm yet commanding voice, and pointed to the tables next to us.
Ashley's friend sat near me, and beside her was Ashley. On the opposite side of the table, the 3 guys sat, with Nate sitting on the left side, near us.
Ashley looked our way and said, "Hey Cassandra and Millie, good to see you. I see you've got a new friend. What's your name? I'm Ashley." She said softly and smiled at me.
"I'm Samantha Pearson, but you can call me Sam" I said nervously. Why is her presence making me so nervous? I looked at Nate, and he was looking at Ashley. I don't know what he's thinking.
"Hi Sam, nice to meet you. This is my friend, Luna. My boyfriend, Nate, and his friends, Austin and Caleb. We are all sophomores, same class with Cassie." Ashley said. I never thought she'd be this friendly. Nate is really lucky to have her. She's lucky as well because well, it's Nate.
I just smiled and nodded at everyone.
"So guys, wanna do something fun this weekend?" Austin announced to both our tables, which made Millie's ears perked up, eyes wide, and gave the cheekiest smile.
"Cassie please say yes! Let's join them! They're your classmates! I'm embarrassed to speak to them. Please say yes!!!!" Millie loudly whispered, if that's even a thing.
"Oh wow so now I have the power." Cass said, smirking. She's teasing Millie whose practically begging her.
"So girls, are you in? Cassandra?" Austin looked at us again, waiting for our response.
Cass answered, "Uhmm, we'll think about ---"
"Cassie said she's excited to go! She can't wait! She'll be there! And she'll drag us with her!" Millie stood up and said excitedly, interrupting Cassie.
"Alright, great! We'll see you there!" Austin said.
----------------------------
I'm now on my way home, with Millie and Cass dropping me off. I told them how I've never really been in a party, and I'm not sure my mother would even want me going to one.
So here they are at my house... Millie volunteered to ask permission from my mom. I mean, she's not actually very strict, but since my dad died, it's just the two of us so she's understandably become more protective of me.
"Mom, I'm home! And I brought some friends."
My mom came running from the kitchen and welcomed us.
"Oh hi there! Wow Sam, your friends are so pretty!" My mom happily exclaimed. She gave the three of us big hugs.
"Mom, meet Millie and Cassandra. And girls, this is my very beautiful and loving mom, Laura." I said.
"Nice to finally meet you, Mrs. Pearson!" Millie and Cass said.
"Come in, girls! Make yourselves at home while I prepare dinner. You will have dinner here, okay? I won't take no for an answer." My mom winked at them. She is an amazing host and an even better cook.
My mom hurriedly went back to the kitchen and left us here in the living room.
"Your mom is so bubbly, she's so cute." Cass said which made me smile.
"Yeah! I really like her." Millie agreed.
My mom is my #1 best friend in the world. She is the kindest, sweetest, and most thoughtful person I know. And I'm so happy my friends like her.
While waiting for dinner, we just watched some shows, and had some laughs. When dinner was ready, we went to the kitchen and sat down.
"So girls, how's law school treating you? Sam's been studying really hard and I hope she'd be able to relax for once." My mom said, which made Millie sat up as she found the perfect opportunity.
"Speaking of being able to relax, uhmm Mrs. Pearson, we were actually invited to attend a party. So uhmm, if it's okay, we'd like to ask if Sam could come with—"
"Oh my goodness, go!!! Yes, please take her! Enjoy your youth! Have some fun!"
Millie smiled so wide I thought her cheeks would crack.
"Thank you, Mrs. Pearson! We'll take good care of her, I promise!" Millie answered.
I looked at Cass for help and she just gave me a "nobody-can-stop-Millie-so-just-give-in" look.
Dinner went by smoothly, we just talked all throughout until Millie and Cass had to leave. After that, it was getting a little late so I took a shower and now I'm in bed.
I was about to fall sleep when I heard knocking on my door.
"Sam?" I heard my mother said from outside.
"Come in, Mom." I answered.
"How are you, sweetie? You know, seeing you with such great friends made me so happy."
"Thanks, Mom. I really am happy. I am so grateful I met them. I hope we can be friends for life."
"Oh, I'm sure you will, darling. After your father died, I was worried that you'd get scared of being attached to people. During that time, I never saw you socialize, or even attempt to befriend anyone. So now seeing you get surrounded by nice people, and being invited to parties, you don't know how relieved I am. Your old smile is coming back, and I couldn't be more thankful. From now on, I will treat Millie and Cass as my own daughters as well."
I don't know why but I teared up. My mom has such a genuine heart. I am really so blessed to have her.
"Don't worry about me, Mom. And alright fine, I am now convinced. I'll attend the party and have some fun. Maybe I'll even dance the whole night." I said, and we both laughed.
We talked for a little while and kissed each other good night.
Before my mind drifted to sleep, I had one question I couldn't shake off...
What should I wear to the party?
