After sleeping through the night for the first time in a while Malic woke to the sweet smell of a freshly grounded coffee. "Milk and Sugar are on the tray." He heard the already up and at it Librarian tell him.

"What time is it?" Malic asked thinking it must have been late morning. He stretched and then sat up and looked at the coffee with a smile.

"It's five thirty three Malic." The Librarian smiled at him, "At least you slept, me I'm lucky if I get to sit down for twenty minutes to enjoy a full breakfast sandwich." Confused Malic looked at the coffee added two lumps of sugar and stirred some milk into the drink, then took a long drink. "We have to be prepared for Uthar arriving this morning, we cannot go unprepared" Added Yanko as he moved a large box from one side of the room to the other. "If we know he's arriving and when so will they no doubt. That means we have to be smart, prepared and have a back up plan incase things go wrong." Malic realised how big this normally simple task would be, he felt suddenly under prepared.

Kandra walked over from somewhere, Malic hadn't been paying any attention, she sat next to him with a coffee in her hand. Instead of having her hair straightened today she had curled it into tight short curls, when Malic actually noticed he was pleasantly surprised. Her pale flesh didn't look so drastic in the dim yellow light, it seemed to make her look more human than doll-like, even her dull eyes had brightened up.

Yanko spent an hour or so going over the stuff he had prepared while the others slept. Nothing dangerous, no weapons, but plenty of items to slow anyone who might try and chase them. Once he was sure they all knew what things were he moved on to his primary plan, then his secondary plan and finally his back up plan just incase nothing goes to plan.

"So are we ready to go?" Yanko asked the other two nodded and they each grabbed what they needed and the Librarian lead the way from the sacred library.

Not wanting to be to much of an easy target Yanko headed to the train station by a different route than Kandra and Malic who were happy to take the most direct way through the city. It wasn't long before they felt they were being watched, then followed. While the face of the man following them changed he clothing didn't. The long black trench coat was very out of place in the city, so even the first of them was easy to spot in a crowd. The second was even more noticeable as he was that much taller. Between the Library and the station Malic had counted five following them and every time their follower changed they notified Yanko.

However Yanko wasn't getting it any easier, he ducked into an alley as another man took up the role of following him across the city. Waiting behind a trash bin the Librarian pulled an extendable assault stick from his rucksack, he could hear his stalker turning into the alley. With every step closer Yanko's heart raced a little bit more. Despite his bloodline he didn't want to end up in the hands of the Sons of Oris, it would mean that at the end of the month he would be dead. Not something he was overly keen on.

As his would be assailant walked just passed the trash bin, Yanko looked at him then timed his surprise attack with precision. Bringing the assault stick down into the guys shoulder the impact was enough to knock him to the floor. Once on the ground Yanko crushed his throat with his heavy size 10 boots before dragging the body to the bin and dumping the unfortunate guy behind it. He then carried on walking down the alley.

Malic and Kandra had decided that they had been followed enough and doubled back down a quiet side street. The man following lingered at the corner a moment before going after them. Malic decided to walk up to the door of a house and when the door was opened he quickly asked to come in, saying they were being followed and would leave by the back door and cause the home owner any problems. The young woman was taken a back for a moment but agreed and allowed Malic then Kandra to enter the house. They did as Malic said they would, moving quickly along the corridor to the kitchen then out into the garden, through the gate into the alley behind.

Once in the alley they bolted as quickly as they could back toward the train station. As they reached the station they spotted a few men in the same long jackets as those who had been following them. They must have known they were heading for the train station. Malic looked toward the far end of the station hoping to see Yanko there, but he had yet to show up. In the distance they could hear the cross country train sounding its horn as it approached the tunnel just outside of the city.

There was a massive explosion in the tunnel which caused Yanko to stop on the bridge over the rail lines. The dust and smoke was blocking the view of the tunnel but he knew something had gone wrong. Rushing across the bridge he jumped over the rail and began climbing down onto the platform ont he wrong side of the public barriers. As he reached the bottom he was glad to see Malic and Kandra running toward him. Once they were over the barrier the three of them ran toward the tunnel.

It took them almost ten minutes to reach the tunnel and once they got there the dust and smoke had still not cleared enough to see what had happened. People were stumbling from the tunnel all battered and bruised. Yanko managed to get some information from a passanger as they walked to safety.

"From the sounds of it, once the train was completely within the tunnel a series of explosives caused the train to derail sending it across the two tracks. There are loads of people trapped and injured. We have to find Uthar before the Sons do." Yanko looked into the dust and realised they would hardly be able to see once they gone in. "Lets go in and see what we can find." Leading the way Yanko disappeared into the dust cloud.

It didn't take long for the dust to start choking the Librarian as he slowly walked deeper into the tunnel. Managing to look forward through the dust he could just make out a flickering light, he hoped it was one of the front lights of the train. Almost falling over the rails Yanko managed to find the drivers door and pry it open. As he was about to climb into the cab of the train he felt a hand on his shoulder, he spun around to strike but noticed it was Malic before landing the strike.
"Next time warn me first." He looked about for Kandra who materialised from the dust. "Let's get in side the train out of this dust, it's rather choking."

One by one they climbed into the cab keeping their balance as best as they could. The control panel was busted, screens were cracked, exposed wires crackled reminding them that the electricity in the train was still very live and active. Navigating the tilted carriage Malic lead the way, not sure why he had ended up at the front but he was. With one steady foot in front of the other his progress was slow but srady. There were bodies thrown all over the carriage and as Kandra found them she checked for a pulse. Every one of them so far had been dead, positive she had counted fourteen so far as they approached the door at the end of the carriage.

"This really cannot be happening." Said Malic as he crossed into the next carriage which had twisted clean off its bracket and was upside down. Malic stepped onto the roof of the carriage avoiding someones torn open arm. Bodies lay everywhere, more than the last carriage, pools of blood on both the floor dripping down onto the roof, and on the roof where bodies have landed. Windows and walls where splattered with blood, clearly this carriage had rolled more than once before coming to a stop.
"Kandra I think someones alive here!" He called back as he saw someone's body twitching ontop of another body.

"Kandra rushed over, Malic was right the guy was a live but barely, deciding to use this chance she took of the necklace, the man looked at her hope in his eyes until she pressed the necklace into his chest and his eyes rolled back in pain. Another of the orbs glowed and Kandra closed the mans eye lids. "Ok, lets try and find Uthar if we can. Otherwise we might have unwanted company here." She said getting back to her feet.

"Too late." Shouted Malic as he spotted five men in the long coats walking through the next carriage toward them.

The men began picking up pace until they where running through the other over turned carriage straight for them. Malic opened the door and jumped through, he wasn't really a fighter but his brief kick boxing training would hopefully be enough. As the first of the men lunged Malic side stepped then planted a firm blow to his midrift sending his attacker sideways toward the window. Yanko took the chance and used his assault stick to bring the man to his knees before knocking him unconscious with a knee to the side of the head. Kandra swung under he upside down chairs to take one of the men down, taking his knees out from under him. Malic shoulder charged another driving them into the last man in the carriage. Suddenly one of the men threw off his coat and began pounding the one Kandra had knocked to the floor.

"I take it that's Uthar?" Sounded Malic as Yanko rushed forward.

"Indeed it is, glad we now have a fair fight on our hands." Yanko smacked one of the men with his stick sending a few of his teeth across the carriage. Gaining the upper hand for a few moment Yanko and the others managed to get back through to the cab and was about to leave when they heard a loud crash from outside. "Damn it, more of them." Yanko shouted as he spotted a large object crash into the front of the cab before more men in long coats climbed out. "We have to move now." He said as the others stood watching the action unfold outside.

The men from the carriage were all back on their feet and moving quickly through the tilted carriage. Those outside stood a little way from the train waiting, clearly they planned to force them outside and into a trap. Uthar looked about until he spotted something that gave him an idea. Malic held the cab door closed as Uthar messed about with the trains wiring for a few minutes. Once sorted he motioned Yanko to get out via the window, Kandra was close behind the Librarian as he dropped to the floor of the tunnel. Sneaking toward the front of the cab he could see the truck the Sons of Oris had driven straight into the cab. Kandra slowly opened the door of the truck slowly and climbed in. She pulled the hood clip and the hood clunked. Yanko opened the hood and removed the battery as quietly as he could. Once he had it clear he rushed it back to the window and handed it to Uthar.

Malic was only just able to hold the door shut as those on the other side were wrestling to get it open. "On my mark Malic you run for the window."
395Please respect copyright.PENANA3u4IB5VpbS
"Not a chance. You get it ready and get out, I'll plug it in and clear the room before it blows." Replied Malic realising that the chance to get out in time would be minimal and Uthar wasn't looking in his prime. "Do it." He snapped and Uthar readied the system, all Malic would have to do is make the connection and run.

"Ready." Uthar said as he bolted for the window, faster than Malic expected. Looking at the battery Malic hoped that over loading the electrics would cause the system to ignored then explode. It was a long shot but one Uthar was rather confident about. Malic let go of the door handle and the men ont he other side fell in a comic tumble as the door gave way in their hands. Turning and running Malic grabbed the cable he needed and pushed it into the makeshift connector, he imagined the hiss the electricity would make as it rushed from the battery along the wiring. He was almost out of the window when the engine exploded.

Kandra looked on in horror as the engine exploded, glass and metal scattered in every direction, even the truck was torn to pieces by the impact. Yanko lifted his head from behind the pile of collapsed stone from the tunnel roof. The men who had been standing outside the train were cut down with shrapnel which was part of the plan, those inside the train still should have died in the blast. There was no sign of Malic which made them all worry, Uthar was the first to head back toward the train and he hadn't gone too far before he spotted Malic's body twisted over a pile of rubble.

"Yanko, I found him." The new comer was forced to pull a shard of glass from Malic's chest, as well as slowly lift him so his arm became free from a iron support rod in the wall. Kandra arrived before Yanko did, she could see the bad shape he was in, cuts all over his face and body, his back was shredded to bits. They needed to get him back to the Library and quickly. The three of them lift him and carried him from the tunnel as quickly as they could manage. It wasn't easy but once back at the station they were welcomed by police and paramedics, however the sheer volume of those in need of help allowed them to slip passed them and flag down a cab.

Once back at the library Malic was placed on a long table while Yanko went to work removing all the glass and other fragments from his body. After almost two hours on the table Malic's body was free from shrapnel but he was not out of the woods. Kandra remained by his side for the rest of the day while Yanko and Uthar planned the next move.

Some time late into the evening Uthar brought Kandra some Chinese from the local take out, she thanked him and began to eat.
"Will he be ok?" Asked Uthar as he looked upon the motionless body.

"I think he will be, or at least I hope I'm right about him." She said looking at Malic's stitched up face. "I don't know why but I think he's a Nefilite." Uthar looked at her puzzled. "The first time we met, I snapped his neck and went to use the necklace on him, then he shot up."
395Please respect copyright.PENANAYDdLWLji81
"Ah, well let's wait and see then. Some start of a romance story to tell the kids I suppose." He laughed but Kandra didn't understand why he would say that so she gave him a confused look and he smiled. "Are you telling me you don't feel anything for him?" She sat silent for a moment not sure what to say.
395Please respect copyright.PENANA7dd5iDdKuG
"I don't know how to answer that." She admitted looking at Malic on the table. It was true she felt something for him, but she had no idea what it was or what to do about it. Uthar left her to it as she pulled her chair closer to the table. "Maybe I do love you." She said laying her head down near his arm and within a few minutes she was asleep.
