After a while, we got up from our spot near the edge of the cliff and pack up our stuff ready for the last stretch of the journey to the the edge of the forest. The ranger told us it will take us around 4 hours and he will be waiting for us there when he radioed us to check on us. As well as that he stated that a full police search was getting set up in the ara. Best to get out as soon as possible we started walking towards the edge of the forest, I still had this really wrong feeling in my gut like something was definitely wrong but I ignored it because never trust my gut feeling I told myself. "crap" Alice said as she felt the first drop of water touch her nose, for the next hour we stayed close to the trunks of trees trying to stay as dry as possible while heading to the way out,
After a while, the rain stopped but our troubles were not all gone as we both heard a low growl one that we knew off by heart, both our fathers who were hunting buddies had continuously warned us since we both started showing interest in the woods. "If you hear a low growl in the woods run, run as fast as you can and get to high grounds" we both sprinted. I never thought we had ever run that fast, we ditched our packs they were weighing us down because what we heard behind us was no doubt a bear. By then we were only a couple minutes near the end of the forest we kept going in a zig-zag pattern so the bear could not follow us, we ran for 20 minutes straight. Once we stopped we kept a close eye out I reached for the radio which I had slung over my shoulder while ditching the packs. We were both on edge but we were now only 20 minutes away from the road.
Those 20 minutes were the longest ever both Alice and I did not talk. We were both frightened out of our minds we kept away from the tree trunks now because it had stopped raining and we both kept getting hit by water falling from the leaves of the trees we were up to the last stretch of the forest I was so relieved when I saw the road that came with a ranger car, also a police vehicle and, my dads car we got to the road both my dad and Alices dad was standing there they ran towards us and us both collapsed into their arms exhausted and happy to be out of danger. We did not even know the half of it. at that moment my gut feeling turned into a writhing pain something was definitely wrong I could tell it. my head started feeling light and I felt as I was starting to drift away what was this food poisoning, did I accidentally touch ivy what was this
My dad, maybe he knows what was going on only he didn't he was panicking. Two police officers got out of the car and raced towards me "what the hell is this" I hear my father shouting I've never heard him this worried I clenched my gut it felt like it was burning like it was on fire, Is this a dream I thought for myself as everything got blurry, my knees gave out from underneath me as I fell towards the floor slamming my head into the ground. Only it didn't hurt I felt no pain from fall just my stomach, it felt like it was being torn apart the only thing that was not blurry was Alice's face with a look of pure horror plastered on it her blue eyes open wide I heard something that sounded like a chopper and muffles shouting, I didn't know what was going on, i was scared
