I sat at the table. I’ve been off cooking duty for a few months now. The girls came in and put our plates out. It was steak. I immediately ripped into it. Everyone at the table stiffened.
”It’s time. Ore take her to the forest and walk he through the shift. After she’s done eating.” Blair ordered as I kept ripping into my steak.
“I can’t wait to see your wolf!” Amri clapped in excitement. I finished my steak leaving not even the bone.
”Let’s go now.” Ore said and I nodded. I got up and gave a respective nod to my pack. I left the building with Ore and we went deep into the woods.
”This may be the most painful thing you will ever experience. Just imagine a wolf. Don’t think about every bone in your body breaking. Think about running for hours.” He said and I wanted to tear his head off for making me half worried. I breathed and imagined a wolf. I heard a crack. I laptop hearing one after another until the pain set in.
One bone after another. The bones in my body were shifting and breaking to form my new body. I could feel the pain weakening or my body had just become used to it. My eyes opened and I saw fur. Blondish and grey fur. Wow!
I ran back to the pack house. I forgot about Ore. “Zion, wait!” Ore called out with a hint of command in his voice. Part of me wanted to rip into him for commanding me, but the other part of me knew it had to be important.
”Let them come to you. You are an Alpha blood. I’ll text Blair.” He said and I nodded with a sigh.
Everyone came out and bowed to me. It felt a bit odd, but I knew it was a sign of their loyalty. “Now girls get back inside. She’ll have to do this a hundred times more before bed.” Ore stated and I froze.
“It’s time to Unshift. Think about your human form and your favorite memory.” Ore said and I took in a deep breath. I thought about the time when Blake has tried to convince father to let me stay. He never budged, but Blake persisted until I was given an extra day that I didn’t take. I looked down and I was human and Naked. I ran behind a tree and Ore laughed.
“How long did it take me to shift?” I asked Ore.
”About two minutes.” He said and I went wide eyed. It felt like hours.
”Again!” He commanded and I immediately started thinking about being a wolf and ripping his head off. The pain was a bit less than last time, but it still hurt.
”Again!” He shouted every time I unshifted. I had just about had it 50 shifts through.
”When will this stop?!?” I growled at him.
”When it stops hurting. Now again!” He commanded. I didn’t have to imagine the wolf anymore. I continued to shift on and off again. The pain increasingly lessened. I saw the sun rise and fall. I kept shifting. Eventually I didn’t feel the pain anymore.
”Again!” Ore commanded.
”I’m done.” I said.
”Zion. Do you feel the pain?” He asked sincerely.
”No. What will we do next?” I asked.
”Sleep and then come and begin running drills. You won’t stop until you can overlap me twice. I’m a first born Alpha blood, so we’re evenly matched.” He said and I went into shock.
”What happened to your pack?” I asked.
”My sister’s husband challenged me and I made it out with in an inch of my life.” He said and I felt like a stranger to the person who had been training me for a year.
I went inside and fell asleep as soon as my head hit a pillow. One more year and we will start the pack.
