"The end is nigh! Repent, God is coming, he is coming!" The fanatic cried across the square disturbing the commuter's morning. Conner tried to tune them out to no avail. He chuckled to himself about their message, the end was always near. As he left the fanatic behind and his thoughts shifted to the long arduous day ahead of him, maybe it would be better if the world ended, Connor sadly chuckled to himself again, sadly the world marches on. After another few minutes of walking, he finally left the summer heat and took refuge in the large office building where he worked. He entered the elevator on his right and rode it to the seventh floor. He walked through the halls and entered his office and stared out the window, the sun glittering off the neighbouring buildings. He sat at his desk and flicked on the radio, a morning talk show filled the room and he began to work, he half-listened to the show as he began to sort out his emails and organise his calendar, the sun's heat grew as it rose, after an hour of busy work the talk show switched to a news show. Connor tried to concentrate on his work but the graphs seemed to swim away from him. Deciding he needed a break, Connor walked to the cafeteria and got himself a glass of water, it felt like the water instantly turned to sweat, he drained another glass, then another, after five more glasses Connor abandoned his efforts and returned to his office. He opened his window fully and sat back at his desk, before he could start working a voice drifted into his office battling against the radio
"The end is nigh! Repent sinners god is coming to get you!" Connor sighed, it was the same nut job from the morning. He had somehow found a bell and was rhythmically smacking it. The somewhat amused feeling from that morning was nowhere to be found. Connor slammed the windows shut, he sat back at his desk, he tried to focus on his work but the heat was too much, Connor flicked through the radio stations until he finally find a weather station
"For those just joining in wondering 'what's with the heatwave ' scientists are claiming that the sun is expanding. What are your thoughts, Tom?" Conner's eyes widened, he looked at the sun and immediately looked away. He blinked away his tears before deciding to take a picture of the sun, to his uneducated self it didn't look any bigger, he decided to wait half an hour and then take another picture and compare.
Half an hour of suffering later Connor picked up his phone and took another photo.
"Fuuuuucccccccckkkkkk" he groaned, the photos were massively different. He could tell that the sun was growing at an alarming rate.
"Fuck this." He said tearing off his tie and marching out of the building. The moment he stepped out into the sunlight bubbling his skin. He quickly stepped back into the office. He scanned the surrounding buildings and found many people in a similar situation, he also found the fanatic from that morning laying face down in the middle, of the road, his skin redder than a ripe tomato. It didn't look like they were going to get back up. Not really thinking Connor ran into the road and picked up the bell from them before darting into another office. It felt like the sun was pushing him down, trying to make him submit, but Connor made it. The people trapped in the building looked inquisitively at him but he paid them no attention. He grabbed an umbrella from inside the door and went out the door and onto the road once more. Connor slammed the bell into the umbrella and began chanting
"The end is nigh, we are doomed, don't waste your last hours!" he went up the road chanting for 10 or so minutes before he felt the umbrella begin to melt, he knew he would be a goner if he didn't hide from the sun but he needed to let people know, he must let everyone know, so he continued on, his blood boiling and eyes melting, his skin bubbling and hair burning but he marched on.
"The end is nigh, we are doomed, don't waste your last hours." He continued
"The end is nigh!"
