"For the love of God, show some skin!!!" Millie shouted through the phone.
I'm on FaceTime with Millie and Cass. I'm showing them some of my clothes, and it seems like most of them are giving off professional vibes, and very unfit for a party.
"Don't listen to her, just wear something comfortable." Cass argued.
"Nope, not you too! You WILL wear a dress, Cassie! I'm not going to a party with two aunties, I'm going with two hot women!" Millie said while pouting.
Then I remembered that one dress. My mom and dad gave it to me as a gift on my 23rd birthday. I remember them always telling me to act my age, and live my life to the fullest. My dad died the following year, and up to this day, I never had the chance to wear it. Maybe this is the perfect time.
"Well, I actually do have this one dress, but I'm not sure if it would still fit." I said, catching Millie and Cassie's attention.
"Let us see, let us see!! Hury!" Millie shouted excitedly. She placed her face so close to her phone, I could only see her eyes and nose on my screen.
I pulled out the dress from a box in my closet. I'd forgotten how beautiful it was. It was a fitted off-shoulder maroon sequin dress with balloon sleeves. I quickly put it on and to my surprise, it's still a perfect fit.
I did not notice I was taking too long staring at myself in the mirror until I heard Millie's voice again.
"SAM, WHERE ARE YOU? SHOW US THE DRESS, NOW!!!" Her humongous voice made me jolt.
"Fine, here it is. What do you think?" I said, and stood a few feet from my phone to show them the whole dress.
"Wow. I know that I don't speak a lot but really, I am speechless. You are so gorgeous, Sam." Cass said, which made me blush. I am not used to flaunting this much of my body, so this is definitely a moment to remember.
"And again, WOW. You made the human megaphone literally speechless." Cass teased, referring to Millie.
"So what do you think, Millie?" I asked nervously because she really isn't speaking at all. She was just looking at me and seemed to be thinking deeply.
After a few seconds, Millie finally answered. "HOLY SHIT. Don't you move! We'll be there in a few minutes. I'll pick up Cassie first. I'll do both your hair and make-up. And I'll bring heels!!!"
"We will be the prettiest, coolest, hottest girls in that party I swear to you!" Millie exclaimed before ending the video call.
A few minutes later, I hear Millie's car and more importantly, Millie's voice, in the front yard. As usual, both of them are again bickering. The view of them arguing like little kids made me laugh. My friends are so adorable.
I opened my bedroom window to talk to them, "Hey girls! Just enter and go straight to my room, my mom just went out, so no need to knock."
As they enter my room, Millie hurriedly put all her stuff in my bed. There were pairs of shoes, some dresses, tons of makeup, and even glittery bags and purses. Wow this girl is really so ready to party.
"I just brought these dresses so there are no excuses in case you didn't have something to wear. But seeing you're already wearing the perfect dress, then these are for Cassie." Millie said.
It's actually only 5PM and the party starts at 8PM. But Millie said getting ready may take us a lot of time. She lent me her silver heels that perfectly matches my dress. She also said it's better if I just let my hair down, so she curled my hair and put on just a little makeup, because I said I'm not comfortable with having too much.
After about an hour, she was finished with me so she started helping Cassie. I walked to the mirror and looked at myself again. Wow I never knew I could look this way. For the first time in my life, I actually felt very pretty. Somehow it made me more confident to face everyone at the party.
"Knock knock! I heard there are some gorgeous women in here. I brought some snacks for you." I heard my mom's voice outside my door.
"Come in, Mom. We're still getting ready." I answered.
My mom entered and looked around all the fuss in the room and placed the snacks in my study table. When she saw me, she looked surprise.
"Oh my God, you wore it." She said, her voice shaking and tears starting to form in her eyes. Both of us know what this dress symbolizes, and she looked so happy to see me wearing it for the first time.
"Yeah, well I thought it's time for me to act my age" I said, smiling gratefully and trying hard not to tear up.
-------------------------------
A few hours later, we were ready to go. I kissed my mom goodbye and sat in Millie's car.
The party wasn't too far so it only took us a short time to get there.
We entered the bar and saw some of our schoolmates already there. Some are dancing, some are just sitting at the tables and drinking, and some are playing different drinking games.
"Oh, there you are! Come here we got some extra space in our table" Austin said as soon as he saw us.
Upon reaching their table, I saw Caleb and Nate sitting and just talking, while Luna and Ashley were on the dance floor.
I'm not sure if I'm just imagining but when Nate saw me, he stopped whatever he was talking about with Caleb. Caleb seemed to notice that too so he turned his head to us and he also looked surprised, although he was looking at Millie. He stood up and offered us to sit beside them.
