Chapter 5:725Please respect copyright.PENANA8cIW5ivBKp
The Tale of Two Witches
Amelia's point of view:
Susan was on the floor frozen in shock. I scratched the back of my neck trying to figure out how I could explain this. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. Don't blame me, you possibly wouldn't be able to explain it yourself. I gave Susan a serious face and said, "Go to bed." Come on what else could I say, 'Susan this could sound crazy, but I am a witch.'?
Susan got off the floor and back away from me slowly. "What are you?" asked Susan. "How could you do that?" I stepped closer to Susan trying to reassure her off her fears, but she kept walking backwards before she to the wall leaving her no where to go. "Sit down and I will explain everything." I said.
"Everything?" asked Susan.
"Everything." I said. She sat on the sofa and I made some tea. I always thought better when I had some tea. After taking a few sips of the tea, I began telling the story. "I was your age when I learned the truth."
I was your age at the time, 16, when the incident happened. I was walking home from school that day, when I heard a weird voice. It sounded deep and calm and coming from all directions. "Whose there?" I asked frightened. For a few minutes there was no sound. "I cant tell you yet." said the voice. "But, I am someone you can trust."
I did what anyone would have done, I ran. I ran down the street as quickly as I could. My legs ached and went numb, but I didn't stop running. As I ran I could hear something following me. I darted to the left and was almost at my house when something or someone jumped in front of me. I couldn't get a good look at the thing, all I knew was I had to stop running. I tried to stop but couldn't. I ran into the thing and all the wind was pushed out of me. I fell onto the concrete sidewalk and went unconscious.
When I woke up, I was still on the sidewalk. The 'thing' was gone, but a cat was on my chest. It wasn't any cat, it was a black cat with yellow eyes. "Hello, kitty." I said. "Are you lost." The cat tilted its head and meowed. I sat up and patted the cat. Then, the weirdest thing happened. The cat talked.
"Amelia." the cat said. It was the same voice I heard earlier. I threw the cat off me and stood up. The cat landed on his feet and looked at me, calmly. I was about to run, but it was like me feet were glued to the ground. "Don't run." it said. "I can explain everything."
I didn't listen. "What are you?" I asked franticly. The cat just shook its head.
"I don't have much time to explain this to you. So, listen carefully." said the cat. "My name is Salem, and I am a were-cat. This means I can change into any form I please. I am also the guardian of your family. I came to tell you don't trust the boy with the scorpion tattoo. Remember this, it is important."
"What boy with the scorpion tattoo?" I ask franticly. I didn't know anyone with this description. "You will understand soon. If you want to know more about me, ask your mother. Ask her this exactly, 'Who is Salem, the cat that guarded you when you were little."
Suddenly, I could move my feet again and the cat was gone. I continued to work to my home afterward. At first I thought the cat was a figment of my imagination, from hitting the concrete so hard. Then, I knew it wasn't when I got home.
The home I lived in at that time was the same that I live in now. The only difference is that I lived with my sister, my dad, and my mom. At dinner that night, I didn't say anything to anyone. I would have asked mother about the cat, but not here. I didn't want your mother to make fun of me like she usually did. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAvEOi2yzxfG
When everyone left and mom went to wash the dishes, I talked to her. "M-mom?" I asked afraid of her reaction. 725Please respect copyright.PENANACfB3URTijo
"Yes, dear?" she asked me without looking at me. She was so into her chore.725Please respect copyright.PENANA6Zwoq3HRsA
"Who is Salem, the cat that guarded you when you were little?" I asked a little afraid. On the way home, I memorized it perfectly. As soon as I said the words, mother's eyes went white and she dropped the dish she was cleaning. It fell into the water in the sink with the other dishes. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAz0XyrsbrJm
Mother slowly looked over at me. "Who told you that name?" she asked. I stepped back, not knowing this side of her. The mother I knew was a happy stay at home mother that didn't have any secrets. This side of my mother seemed like an insane person after you tell them you know their greatest secret. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAg8Yksx0rNm
"I saw a b-bla-black cat on the street today. He said his name was Salem and that you knew him. He said that I should say those exact words to you." I say. Mother laid her hands on my shoulders making me shudder. I didn't know what she was going to do next. She pulled me into the closest room and locked the door. We were in the storage closet. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAy8CR3c8SHt
"Why did he talk to you? He only comes when a member of our family is in danger." she says.725Please respect copyright.PENANADqT4OvYz8e
"He said that I was in danger." I say. I don't know if I should tell her this, she seemed so angry at the time. I gave her it anyway, because she seemed like she could read my soul anyway. "Said 'beware the boy with the scorpion tattoo.'" 725Please respect copyright.PENANAK6gaSX88d6
"You should listen to him, my dear Amelia. He saved me from a great danger when I was a little younger than you." said my mother putting her hand my cheek softly. "He protects people like us." 725Please respect copyright.PENANAHNzqw9xL4f
"What do you mean like us?" I ask frightened that my mother was a psychopath. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAZUjrAJ14uk
"Witches." she says. She looked deep into my eyes and saw that I didn't believe her. She pulled me out of the closet and took me upstairs. She showed me where next to my present day room was a small hidden door. That is where she kept all of her witchery. Even father didn't know about this room. There was a spell on that door that made only witches able to pass through and see the door. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAhnFv4WxuuN
She showed me that she could do spells. She made a necklace appear out of the air. "Keep it." she said. "It will protect you from threats. I got it from my mother before she died. There are many of them here, your grandmother made lots of them." 725Please respect copyright.PENANAwLujeC1En4
I just kept nodding. What could I have said about something like this? "When time comes, you are going to pass this down to your niece or daughter." said mother.725Please respect copyright.PENANAE9joxx8MWe
"What about Barbara? Should we tell her?" I asked, I finally got the courage to speak. 725Please respect copyright.PENANA9v5DaQDg9b
"She already knows. She knew for a year already." mother said. That explained why I would see glow light from under her covers at night. She was practicing spells. That was when I found out Barbara was excellent at keeping secrets, from me at least. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAP38NvJATLa
After that talk with my mother, I went to bed. "Good night." said Barbara before cutting out the lights then laying into a bed exactly the same as mine. I mutter good night then turn away from her. I had trusted her and looked up to her. I thought we told each other everything, but I was wrong. She kept everything away from me. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAjqxoLahP3C
The next morning, mom acted like she always did. It was like last night never happened. She kissed me and Barbara good bye and get us our lunchboxes. We got onto the bus and went to school, Barbara didn't hang out with me at lunch however. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAxLpzyXH6Fx
I saw her go over to a table with cheerleaders. I had forgotten that about a week ago, she had joined the cheerleading team. Even if I was invited to sit with them, I wouldn't. I hated snobby, bratty, rich acting people which fits the definition of a cheerleader. I sit at my table alone, eat my lunch, and watch Barbara over at the other table with her new friends. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAnZj5xgRCh4
Soon, a guy sat at the table with the cheerleaders. He looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. He sat right next to Barbara and put his arm around her. Was he her new boyfriend? I didn't know. More secrets she hid from me. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAqKaOv2ctI6
After school that day, I went outside to catch the bus. "Are you coming?" I asked Barbara who was still talking to that guy on the steps of the school. She continued to talk to him while I waited impatiently for her response.725Please respect copyright.PENANAb7fe1HrRWf
Finally she turned towards me. "No thanks. I am going to get a ride." I let out a sigh of disappointment as I get into the bus. I remember how Barbara and I would get onto the bus together and talk about our day. At that point, I thought no body would get in between us. Then, I saw a guy had sept in and taken my sister without me even suspecting a thing. 725Please respect copyright.PENANATUl2W1PklO
At dinner that night, I set the table. Barbara wasn't home yet. "Where is your sister?" asked dad. I shrugged my shoulders and went on with my task. Soon the doorbell rang. 725Please respect copyright.PENANA7KwibKjQ2P
"I'll get it." my mother said. She opened the door and let out a small cry of joy. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAIhLZZuyekn
"Hey, mom." my sister said like everything was normal. "I wanted to know if it was ok for me to bring a guest."725Please respect copyright.PENANArE4BUDUhvz
"Of course it is." my mother said. "Please come in." She opened the door wider and let Barbara and her guy friend in. They all ate dinner with us that night. 725Please respect copyright.PENANA2M94R6FBNs
"Dad, I would like you to meet my boyfriend, Zach." she said. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAwWXeQuzKGV
"Is this the reason you came home late?" asked dad. Barbara rolled her eyes, which my parents didn't catch. 725Please respect copyright.PENANAEtibBfdTSr
"I sent you a message explaining that I went shopping with Michelle." said Barbara. Michelle was one of her friends from school. At first day was skeptical about Zach, then he warmed up. At the end of the night, it was like Zach and dad were friends. The only person that didn't like him was me, but I wasn't asked about my opinion. 725Please respect copyright.PENANArs1eVy94xR
We all walked Zach to the door, where he got him coat. Barbara helped him into it and he was out the door. When he was leaving, I noticed a mark on his neck. 725Please respect copyright.PENANA4iSEO1EOLl
