"How can you call a simple letter your gateway to doom ?" Asked Rishabh, unsure of Meera's statement.
Meera gently smiled to give way to two small dimples on either side, hidden amongst those many wrinkles of time.
"I agree with you ", she said, her gaze at those old times when cinemas were, but a magical word and scooters slowly began to rule the roads. "The letter was simple, good and supportive. I was so impressed by the kindness the letter reeked off that I wrote a thank you letter to him. And look at the cruelty that he even dared to write a response."
" Soon letters began getting exchanged between us and we got to know each other really well. I found out that he was an orphan who lived in a quarter that was gifted to him by his neighbor for teaching English to his son which helped him get a high post in Delhi Consulate. He, on the other hand, found out that I was a woman who yearned for the freedom to fly into this world unafraid of anything in her way.
Slowly the silver-winged pigeons that seemed to fly between us turned into pure white doves. We became one of the many young adults who had slowly fallen into the chasm of love and like every other person who had fallen here before us, we decided to make it our home. Sometime later with the blessings of my parents, we exchanged wedding vows in one of those letters and became husband and wife.
The next month, I decided to finally make my homecoming as a bride into my husband's house in a red saree fit for a newlywed. Rahul too supported my request and readily complied in his next letter, telling me that he would receive me in a blue shirt.
Two days after his acceptance, I took the blessings of my parents and grandmother. Waving a final goodbye to my humble abode, I sat on the bus. My fingers curled around our first letter which I had brought with me as a sign of good luck, and my lips put on a brave smile. As the charabanc rode away on the dusty path, my eyes became moist with emotions while my heart bubbled with excitement as I wondered what Rahul looked like and how his home was."
