I sat, staring blankly at it. It was pure mental torture, designed to drive young children insane. It was certain, to say the very least. Yet, I must accomplish this useless busy work as I am assigned a number instead of judged based on my own accord.
I put my pencil down. It was no use. I would defy this busy work and the paradime that the universe had brought me in. But, as I stood up, I felt a strange tap on the back of my shoulder. What could this be?
I turned around, and saw nothing. My blood turned blue. Something had touched me. Not a lock of hair, or even a fly that had momentarily sat on my shoulder. It was real, like a human touch.
"Who are you?" I asked to the empty air. "Homework." The wind hazily responded. Suddenly, I saw my once useless sheat of paper stand up, as if having invisable legs to make itself stick upright. "What do you want?"
"You're teacher is a wizard, and he wants you to complete your homework." I gave a dubious frown. "You tell the teacher I'm never coming back to his class if he keeps sending me busy work."
"You call me busy work?" The homework demanded, slashing my hand and giving me a paper cut. I winced, pain soaring throughout my body.
"Shi-Why are you so focused on helping your master in the first place?" I asked bitterly. "He helps you in more ways than one. He knows that you cheat. Why do you think he gives you homework? He waits for the day you will be honest. But now, you are not only cheating, but giving up. That is no way to live, dear boy."
"So if I finish, you won't turn on me again?" The homework seemed to make a nod before turning limp. I sat there, making sure it wouldn't move. "Going to the bathroom! Gotta pee!" I announced, although it was a bit too loudly for my taste.
I exited the room, walking to the nearest bathroom-before stopping by to get a pair of scissors. When I returned, the homework had suspected nothing.
I grabbed it and held it in the air, with the scissors right by it's skinny torso. "Bring me to Mr. Larrence, wherever he lives. Or else. You're strong, right? Fly me there, or else you'll live to see another day." The homework stayed silent, before expanding. I climbed onto it's back like Alladin did on the carpet. It flew in the air, the open door getting slammed by the wind as I was in the air.
It was a perplexing sight. The air was the most fresh I had ever had the luck of letting my lungs breathe, the sights themselves were beautiful with the mountains covering the daylight. The sun still held strong, despite the winter solstice nearing and it going down lower and lower each night.
We landed at Mr. Larrence's house. I still kept the homework by with my scissors. Despite us never even knocking or ringing the door, it was immediately opened by squid-like tentacles. "Welcome." I heard Mr. Larrence's voice come from the door. I took a step in, and immediately fell down.
I landed in a pit. I admit, I only screamed and peed my pants once. Then, I saw my teacher. "I see you've figured it out now." I shrugged. I always secretly suspected that someone I knew was a wizard.
"So, any last words before your death?"
"This is child abuse." I declared. Mr. Larrence frowned, his tentacle going down the pit to touch my shoulder in pity. "Don't you atleast wonder how I will murder you for your crimes?"
"No offense, everyone cheats. And I'm sure just as many skip their homework. The only crime I committed is technically trespassing your house, but you basically allowed me in. And maybe discovering magic, since I'm sure that's illegal somewhere." Mr. Larrence cackled.
"Oh dear boy, I've discovered your fate! Yes! Death by a thousand paper cuts!" My eyes widened, and I screamed with horror. Whatever cockiness I had in me dissapeared. Suddenly, I felt two of the tentacles grab onto me and lift me out of the pit. Then, tiny pieces of homework sprang into the air and surrounded my neck, ready to strike.
I heard them call my name, their edges slowly cutting through my skin. It was torture. I heard the laughing and the shouting, and the taunting everytime they called my name.
I woke up in a cold sweat. "Dan, are you up? Cmon, the bus will be here in 20 minutes." I nodded, gulping. It was all a dream. "Is everything okay, Dan?" Dad asked. I pondered for a moment, before stumbling upon the answer:
"I forgot to do my homework."
