Chapter 6: The Final Confrontation
Rue wheezed, gasping for breath, her chest heaving as her strength waned. She managed to use her wings to break free from Daegal’s grip. Daegal licked the blood from his fingertips, a cold smile crossing his face. “Is this the speech you give all your victims?” Rue snarled.
“So… what entity was it that turned you into this pitiful form?” he pressed. Ignoring Daegal’s questions, Rue opened her mouth, saliva dripping as she prepared to scream again. But before her spell could be unleashed, more wolves attacked her from behind. Claws sank into her back, and fangs tore through her flesh, silencing her. One of her wings was ripped away in the struggle.
Daegal then shifted into a wolf and joined the assault. Rue fought off the last wolf, but when she met its gaze, she found herself paralyzed, trapped by its glowing eyes. The wolf, back hunched and fangs dripping with blood, transformed back into Daegal as he approached her.
“You’re not the only one who possesses the power to bind your prey. Vampires… are just as capable.” Rue’s pupils dilated in horror as Daegal bared his fangs, sinking them into her neck and drawing the blood until she fell unconscious.
With her final, labored breath, Rue's voice faltered, her words swallowed by blood as it spilled across the earth. Daegal cast her limp form aside, his gaze turning north toward the river. Driven by a cold purpose, he strode along the riverbank, seeking any remnants lost near the shattered wreckage of his carriage.
