July 26, 1991: It was five days before the birthdays of Harry James Potter and Agnes Lauren Parker. During that time, Harry had stayed with his uncle Carlyle and aunt Mary, both of whom tried to stamp the magic out of him. To survive, Harry quickly learned to do his chores without complaining (and without using magic). He made sure to never talk back to his aunt or argue with her. Yet, he longed to get away from the Evans family and return to the Dursleys, where he would surely feel welcome.683Please respect copyright.PENANAYQA5Pf2rln
At the same time, Agnes had had enough of Robbie Evans and his self-depreciating attitude. He always seemed to put himself down and would often sit in a corner for hours (unless he was doing chores that he stole from the others). Robbie's sister Louise and the twins were also of the same mindset, as they either sat quietly on the couch or were doing chores. Vernon and Petunia were sure that the Evans children had mental problems stemming from them being neglected by their father and abused by their mother.
But that wasn't all, as there's more to come. Especially as far as Harry and Agnes were concerned.
July 30, 1991: The day before Harry's 11th birthday. At that time, the Mobley twins Ginger and Twila had been teaching Harry how to behave properly, as they had done so all summer. Harry felt as if the girls were stifling him, not allowing him to do what he wanted. He was also tired of sitting in a corner reading and crocheting and he longed to watch TV.683Please respect copyright.PENANAOSz5fW5OHA
So when a giant came to the Evans house that night after everyone had gone to bed, it was the break that Harry was waiting for.
"Are you kidding!" Nicholas snapped as he stared at the giant. (He had come to speak to Harry when no one else was around.) "Why are you here, Rubeus Hagrid?"
"I've come to speak to Harry, of course," said Hagrid. "I've come to tell him about his family."
"Indeed," said Nicholas as he glared at Hagrid. "Let's end this."
Before Harry could ask what was going on, Hagrid settled himself onto a sofa and told his story: "There was a time when the wizarding world was peaceful. Then You-Know-Who shows up, gathers followers, and killed muggleborn wizards and witches, squibs, and anyone else who got in their way. The Order of the Phoenix was formed to counter the attacks of those fiends. Then one night, HE shows up and kills both your parents..."
"You mean to tell me that HE killed my parents?" said Harry. He had once asked Petunia about his parents, but she was too upset to even talk about it.
"Indeed," said Hagrid. "And he would have killed you as well, but he failed and you ended up getting that scar..."
Harry pulled back his hair, revealing the lightning bolt-shaped scar on his head. He was rather sensitive about it, as he always kept it hidden underneath his hair. (Vernon once made the mistake of taking Harry to the barber shop to have his hair cut, which resulted in more than a few stares. Harry did NOT appreciate that at all, and he let Vernon know that through a collapsed upside down pineapple cake Petunia had baked that day.)
"I see that you do have that scar," said Hagrid. "I will not lie and say that so many people haven't counted on your survival after the Dark Lord's attack."
"So what happened to him?" Harry asked.
"Some said that he died that night. Others disagree. But what everyone knows is that you defeated the Dark Lord," said Hagrid.
"And how did THAT happen?" said Nicholas angrily. "As far as I could tell, Harry hasn't done anything worthy of the fame that was forced upon him. And can you explain what happened to Agnes's family?"
"From what I was told, Adeline Conner and Toby Parker killed by Death Eaters in the aftermath of the Wizarding war, leaving their only daughter an orphan," said Hagrid. "As a result, Agnes was given to your uncle and aunt. Say, where they anyhow?"
"I hope you're not talking to anyone, Harry Potter," Mary snapped as she stared at Harry from down the hall. "You're supposed to be in bed, young man!"
"I'm in bed, Aunt Mary," said Harry, "and I'm not talking to anyone, except for Nicholas!"
"Who? That spineless twisted little dwarf?" Marry yelled. "You're a bigger fool than your uncle and aunt, and I'm sure your parents were known by the company they kept. If you're thinking about going down their path, think again!"
"Yes, ma'am," said Harry as he closed the door to his room. He then said to Hagrid, "I think you might need to leave; my aunt Mary is in no mood to have unwanted guests here."
"And I shall," said Hagrid. "But I will meet you again when it comes time for you to prepare to go to Hogwarts."
"And what's a hogwarts?" said Harry.
"What's Hogwarts?" said Hagrid. "Only one of the best wizarding schools in all of England, if not the rest of the world. Surely you can't not know what Hogwarts is. Or have you not received your letter?"
"I have," said Harry. "And what about Agnes?"
The giant sighed, then said, "I wasn' supposed to be tellin' yeh this, but the headmaster feels responsible for the deaths of Agnes's family. He hopes by bringin' young Miss Parker to Hogwarts he'd patch things up wit' 'er."
"And how's that possible?" said Harry. "Agnes's parents are dead and we don't know if she had any other relatives to take her in."
"Aye, that's right," said Hagrid. "But then again, we don't know much about the Parker family, except for the fact that they're muggles. So we must wait and see if she decides to go."
But they had no idea that going to Hogwarts was Agnes's only choice…683Please respect copyright.PENANA6YkNmgPPef
Unfortunately, Lee and Mary didn't care about Vernon's and Petunia's threats, nor did they care that their older children were gone. In fact, Mary was about to give birth to her fifth child. Unlike their last four children, Lee was determined to make certain his youngest child was "normal" and not like his/her older siblings, whom he believed were mentally disabled. The Mobley twins were "normal,” but the children of Lee's sisters Lily and Petunia were magic.683Please respect copyright.PENANALptsfI8sSy
It was the morning of July 31, 1991, the 11th birthday of Harry Potter and the 10th birthday of Agnes Parker. Yet, he almost didn't get a chance to mark the occasion at all. While many wizards were dancing in the streets celebrating that moment, but Lee Evans didn't care. He had to get his pregnant wife to the hospital. So gathering up Mary, Harry, and the twins, he drove the car as fast as he could so he could get to the hospital.
But they never reached the hospital; the car was involved in an accident. Lee and Mary were killed and Ginger and Twila suffered broken wrists. Harry had a broken leg as well as several cuts and bruises.
Vernon and Petunia were notified of the accident. Leaving the other children with a sitter, they made their way to the hospital, where they found Harry holding a small baby and the Mobley twins. Harry told Vernon that Lee was driving to the hospital when his car was struck by a drunk driver.
"What's the baby's name?" Vernon asked.
"Connor Ariel Evans," said Ginger. "That's what our daddy wanted the baby's name to be."683Please respect copyright.PENANAYJhEMApweT
Petunia shook her head, knowing that baby Connor was actually born a girl. She wrote "Matilda Liliana Dursley" on the baby's birth certificate. In the spot where the parents' names were, she wrote down her own name and that of her husband's; she refused to allow the names "Carlyle" and "Mary" on the certificate, not after the way they mistreated their older children. She was determined to make sure Matilda would live a better life than Robbie, Louise, Felix, and David had lived.683Please respect copyright.PENANAVvoklVSwPA
As for Harry, he frowned as no one wished him a happy birthday. And why would they, when he survived a car accident and watched his uncle and aunt die? He knew that it wasn't fair for a parent to die when their children were still young, but he didn't know what his own parents were like, which was unfair.
But he would deal with that later.683Please respect copyright.PENANAdjBqO1ndSr
Within a week, Carlyle and Mary Evans were buried. Harry frowned as he heard the priest read the final rites. He glared at his cousins, who were standing in a corner of the plot. Robbie, Louise, Felix, and David should've been grateful they actually WERE raised by their parents, as sick and twisted and abusive as they were, he thought. The Dark Lord killed my parents and Agnes doesn't know what happened to her parents. At the same time, Agnes would decide where she would be going to school, as the boys were going to Hogwarts and most schools she knew wouldn't accept an orphan like her.683Please respect copyright.PENANAWtU5pswevW
The baby, named Matilda, would never know who her real parents were, nor would she experience their love (or lack of it). Within several weeks, Robbie had nicknamed her "Molly,” claiming that Matilda was old-fashioned. At the same time, Harry and Agnes had to make a decision regarding Agnes's future, a decision that would change the world forever…683Please respect copyright.PENANAHogP2fjP02
