-This is a fictional story that I made up on the spot; It's my interpretation of the song by Melanie Martinez. Although the song contains explicit content, this story is PG-13. The words in bold are lyrics from the song. I didn't include the explicit words and this isn't the entire song.
Stitched you up, put you together, with cotton and feather
The young girl had experienced pain beyond her years. Miserable, alone, and most of all, tired. Her family's picture perfect image was fading away, and quickly too. Her multiple attempts at love had just left her miserable, alone, and most of all, tired. Evidently, she hadn't learned enough about psychotic people from being kidnapped. She didn't notice the wild look in the boy's eyes as she tried to walk him to her home. She didn't know what the rest of the town did about him. She didn't care. She took him home and treated him as if he were an injured puppy. Bathed him, clothed him, and bandaged his wounds. This went on for years.
Gave you love, put my heart inside you, Oh what could I do?
She formed a platonic, brotherly love with the child, and treated him as such. She took care of him like a pet, but her drunken mother didn't pay her any mind.
When you started talking in your sleep, saying things you'd do to me, I didn't care, I wasn't scared
The boy never spoke, only after the girl lulled him to sleep each night. She listened carefully to him while he slept, for she never got to hear his sweet voice any other time. He made death threats, envisioned all the different ways he could kill her, but the girl didn't pay attention to that. He was her pride and glory, her joy, her purpose for living. She became so attached, that she was blind to his clear hostility and hatred for her.
Now I'm finding knives under the sheets, crumbled photographs of me, I'm in despair, should I be scared?
As she rose to greet the boy one morning, she noticed that he was suspiciously hiding objects underneath his sheets. Out of pure curiosity, she looked underneath his bed once he left, and what she found would change how she saw her boy forever.
Teddy bear, you were my teddy bear, you were comforting and quiet, how did love become so violent, oh teddy bear, you were my teddy bear, everything was so sweet until you tried to kill me
